  2. Tank Tread Drive • A drive that uses that uses a continuous track. The track is driven by one or more drive sprockets. • The treads are the smaller parts of the track. • Tank tread drive systems did not have a major usage until WWI so as to drive over certain terrains.

Tank Tread Advantages • Is in contact with a large surface area, spreading out the weight of the vehicle and preventing it from sinking. • Can move in mud, sand and rocky regions. • Can carry heavy loads that may sink on a wheeled vehicle. • Continuous contact from front to back for rocky terrains. • Can have different angles of approach and departure.

  7. Basic 2 sprocket design. All the advantages described before. Not good for climbing.

  8. Adding a bogey wheel will make it a better climber in the front. Called a single ramp configuration.

  9. Double ramp configuration. Can go over obstacles back and front. Found on military vehicles.
