  2. Applying On-Line… • All students will apply online through O.U.A.C. • (Ontario Universities Application Centre). NO PAPER APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE • Students DO NOT apply directly to the universities. • O.U.A.C. will transfer your application & academic data to your university choices.

  3. E-mail Address… • MANDATORY: you will be required to provide an e-mail address • This will be the primary mode of communication between O.U.A.C., the UNIVERSITIES and YOU!

  4. Before Applying… • visit eINFO (www.electronicinfo.ca) to see all the university options offered • check out university publications, websites & tours • talk to guidance counsellors, family, teachers & friends • write down your program choices & codes (keep them handy) • visit the Online Application Companion Booklet2014 at www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101/ to research program codes; to view the addenda on-line with the most up-to-date program information

Your Grades… • O.U.A.C. forwards your grades to the universities you applied to • Offers of Admission are generally based on (6 gr. 12 U/M courses): • gr. 12 U/M final grades by end of semester 1; • gr. 12 U/M semester 2 mid-terms; • Exceptions…(grade 11) • All offers are conditional upon final grades!!! Night School, Virtual and/or Correspondence Courses, Private School: • It is crucial that you inform the Guidance office if you are taking any of these courses: • semester 1: bring your final report card to Guidance • semester 2: inform Guidance if you are taking a course (then bring your mid-term & final report card to Guidance) • Summer School: • if you are going to take a course that you require to meet admission requirements, please see your Guidance Counsellor before you leave in June.

Scholarships & Bursaries… Scholarships: • university scholarship info can be found on the financial page of any university viewbook or website as well as on www.electronicinfo.ca • 2 types of university entrance scholarships: • those requiring an application (deadlines) • those not requiring an application (most are conditional on final grades) Bursaries: • “free money”: based on financial need • you generally apply to these once you arrive at university Note: • Other awards can be found on the various scholarships sites (info. available in guidance) • Key to most awards: contributions made to your school, community, jobs…in addition to grades O.S.A.P.: student loans, check out osap.gov.on.ca

  7. Ontario Student Assistance Program (O.S.A.P.)…osap.gov.on.ca • Spring 2014 - Guidance will be providing an in-service on how to apply • based on financial need & academic merit • to be eligible you must apply for O.S.A.P. no later than mid-June

  8. Making Your Selections… • You may choose up to 3 programs at any ONE university • General Rule: separate code = separate choice • EXCEPTIONS? always… • check your choices; check the universities

About Your Selections… University of Toronto • maximum ONE program code from each of the following: • St. George Faculty of Arts & Science (including Commerce) • St. George Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering • St. George Faculty of Music • St. George Faculty of Physical Education & Health • Mississauga • Scarborough

St. George Campus College System: • To complete your application to U of T St. George Campus, you MUST rank the 7 colleges: • Innis • New • St. Michael’s • Trinity • University • Victoria • Woodsworth • Check out their websites for: • size • distinguishing features • type of residence offered • NOTE: • Trinity & Victoria typically will not consider you unless you rank them #1 • think of the college as your “HOMEROOM”

About Your Selections… York University • Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies: code =YFR • You will be asked to select a subject of major interest. • DO NOT enter two codes for two separate majors under the YFR code!!! (e.g. English, History, etc.) • You may choose up to 3 programs from any faculty at York. Remember: SEPARATE CODE = SEPARATE CHOICE!!!

Programs Requiring Prior University Studies… • Dentistry • Education • Law • Medicine • Pharmacy • Rehabilitation Sciences • Veterinary Medicine • go to www.ouac.on.ca • go to www.electronicinfo.ca • click on “Important Information” • click on “Programs Requiring Prior University Studies” and “Professional Programs” • check to make sure you have chosen an appropriate undergraduate program which will get you there

  14. Checklist Before using the OUAC 101 application, you will need: • a PIN (Personal Identification Number) • a school number • a student number • a list of your researched options

  15. Personal Identification Number(P.I.N.) & O.U.A.C. Reference Number… You will need both numbers to access your on-line application. • You will receive an envelope from Guidance containing: • your P.I.N. (please keep in a safe place) • school number (MIDENT) • student number (SSSN) P.I.N. + MIDENT + SSSN = allows you to log in & access your personal OUAC 101 application K4Nb After you have applied, you will also receive a 2014 OUAC Reference Number. 2014-456789-0

  18. Navigating OUAC 101 This navigation bar runs across the top of each screen and guides you through the application. This navigation bar runs down the left side of each screen. Help links are located on most of the application screens.

  19. Logging in to OUAC 101 To begin: Log in to your online application account using the confidential access codes provided by your guidance counsellor.

  20. Selecting Your Program These are the search options! Not sure where to apply? Use the various “Search Options” provided.

  21. The FastTrack Option Enter OUAC program codes here. To use the FastTrack option, enter your OUAC program codes: one per box.

  22. Once You’ve Selected a Program: Complete the program details requested for each program selected. Select the Help link at any time for more information.

  23. The Final Steps Once you’ve selected your programs, you’re ready to prepare and submit your application following these six steps below: 1. Review the programs that you have selected. 3. & 4. Your school may have already provided much of this data. Check it for accuracy and make changes where necessary. 5. The universities require you to answer nine questions. (Don’t worry – they’re easy!) 2. Number your choices in order of preference. This doesn’t affect admission or scholarships unless the university specifies this in their literature. 6. Review and report errors to your guidance office. O

  24. Academic InformationPlease report any errors to your guidance counsellor. This screen is “read-only”. P

  25. Submitting Your Application Once you click “Submit”, you will verify all the information on your application. Print it for your records. To make changes, return to the specific application steps. Select “I Verify and Agree” to proceed to the payment screen.

  26. Paying for Your Application… • $130 = 3 choices • $44 for each additional choice Notes: • NO LIMIT on how many universities/programs you apply to, BUT a MAXIMUM of 3 program choices at any one university (including affiliates) • some universities may have further limits • all fees submitted to O.U.A.C. are non-refundable • only full payments will be processed

Method of Payment... • Three Options: • VISA/MasterCard /American Express only: You will need the card number, expiry date & the cardholder’s name. • Internet/Telephone Banking: You will receive a bill payment account number from O.U.A.C. as soon as you submit your application; the person paying fees must be registered to pay bills through selected Canadian banks & credit unions. • Cheque/Money Order: You must send the cheque or money order by mail within two weeks of submitting your application electronically.

  28. Payment Once you have chosen your method of payment and clicked the “Finish ” button, you will immediately receive an OUAC Reference Number. The OUAC cannot process your application without the application fee.

  29. Finishing Up • Print the screen displaying your OUAC Reference Number (2014-XXXXXX) and further instructions; it’s the screen right after the final “Submit” step. • Store your OUAC Reference Number and PIN in a safe place. You will need them to log back in to your application to review your information, make changes to it, and respond to offers of admission.

  30. Finishing Up… • Print the screen displaying your OUAC Reference Number (2014-xxx-xxx) & further instructions; it’s the screen right after the final “Submit” step. • Store your P.I.N. & O.U.A.C. Reference # in a safe place. You will need them to review your application, make changes to it, and respond to offers of admission. Application Deadline: January 15, 2014

  31. Deadlines… May 29, 2014: Date by which universities must respond to your application for admission; one of: a) an offer of admission; b) a refusal; or c) a deferral pending the receipt of specific additional information. June 2, 2014: Earliest date by which universities may require a response to offers of admission and a financial commitment. • January 15, 2014: • Deadline for on-line applications to O.U.A.C. • December 19, 2013: • suggested deadline • O.U.A.C. suggests you submit your application early & not leave it until the last minute • February 4, 2014: • recommended last date to submit changes to O.U.A.C. • some universities will set different deadlines Check out individual university websites for details!!!

  32. Making Changes to your Application… Using your OUAC Reference # & P.I.N., you can log back in to your application to: • pay your application fee, if not done so already; • review your application information; • make changes to personal information; • make changes to university/program choices; • respond to offers of admission.

Responding to an Offer… • May 29, 2014: latest date to receive a response; one of: • (i) an offer of admission, or • (ii) a refusal, or • (iii) a deferral, pending the receipt of specific additional information • When you receive an offer, read it carefully • Respond to your offer by the deadline • Accepting an offer of admission from one university will NOT cancel applications to other universities/programs • But you can have only ONE acceptance of an offer on file at one time (if you want to accept another university’s offer, you must first cancel the previously accepted offer) • Maintain your average because ALL OFFERS ARE CONDITIONAL UPON FINAL GRADES!!!

  34. Responding On-Line... • most universities require that responses to offers of admission be made on-line • when responding, you must click on the SUBMIT button & follow instructions • you will receive a confirmation # (copy it down) • when you receive an offer of admission, you will be given instructions on how to respond to it • if a response deadline has expired or you wish to re-accept an offer you previously cancelled or declined, you should contact the university’s admissions office

  35. Some Key Tips... • After you do something on the OUAC 101 Application, confirm it 24 hrs. later • If you wish to make a change to your university/program selection, remember that February 4th is the recommended last date • If you add another choice, fee = $44 • If you delete a choice & add another in its place = NO FEE
