  2. Try – tried Spend – spent See - saw • He spent a lot of money yesterday. • We tried to get away last week. • They saw the president a year ago.

  3. Negatives: did + not + Verb • I did not (didn’t) work all my life. • They did not see the president last year. Questions: did + Subject + Verb… • Did you work all your life? • Did we see that movie last month?

  4. Exceptions in adding –ed: • Regular verbs ending in silent e -> add –d: Bake – baked, close – closed, phone – phoned, die – died • Regular verbs ending in vowel (a,e,i,o,u) + y -> add –ed: Play – played, destroy – destroyed, employ-employed • Regular verbs ending in consonant + y -> replace y with –ied Marry – married, carry – carried, study – studied, try-tried, fry-fried, worry-worried

  5. Vowel + consonant ->double the consonant and add –ed stop-stopped, plan-planned, rob-robbed • BUT: • happen-happened, open-opened, visit-visited, exit-exited, answer-answered…
