FHSP W/ Endorsements FHSP/DLA Endorsements Meet all requirements of the FHSP with Endorsements Complete Algebra II as one of the required math credits • 4 English (Eng I, Eng II, Eng III, and advanced English) • 4 Math (to include Alg I and Geom) • 4 Science (to include Bio and Lab Science) • 3 Social Studies (W. Geogor W. Hist, US History, Gov’t, and Econ) • Fine Art – 1 credit • PE – 1 credit • Foreign Language - 2 credits of the same language • Electives – 7 credits • NOTE: • Electives choices will be dependent upon the endorsement. • Some endorsements will require more Core class completion and/or specific Core classes. The purpose of the FHSP graduation plan is to…. • Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce (ex. Welding, Cosmetology certifications). • An Endorsement is similar to a college major. Completion of an Endorsement will allow students to graduate from high school with knowledge and/or experience in the college major they wish to pursue. • Students can earn an endorsement in one of the following areas: • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) • Business and Industry • Public Services • Arts and Humanities • Multidisciplinary Studies Foundation High School Plan

  6. Public Service Endorsement Students who desire to make a lasting contribution to society by serving their fellow man should consider the public service endorsement.   7. Business & Industry Endorsement Students can write their own ticket to success in the business and industry endorsement. Arts & Humanities Endorsement Students who choose an endorsement in arts and humanities will be designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing and publishing multimedia content, including visual and performing arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services.   11. How will colleges view the new graduation requirements? FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PLAN It is VERY important for parents and students to check the specific admission requirements for any college a student may be interested in attending.

  12. English I • English II • Algebra I • Biology • US History • All students must meet at least the Level II Standard on all • five (5) EOCs to meet graduation requirements.

ADVANCED CLASSES Pre-AP / AP / Honors / Dual Credit • Available in most subject areas • Teacher input is valuable in making this decision • Prepare for college • May earn college credits through Dual Credit courses and/or AP exams Who should take Advanced classes? Students who are: • Self-motivated • Hard-working • Challenge-seeking • Capable of handling faster pace • Willing to invest extra time, but still keep a BALANCE • Planning to pursue a highly competitive field Core Class Selection

Advanced Placement (AP) Dual Credit (D) Students may receive college credit if they pass the course with a college grade of a “C”. • Students may receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. There is a fee ($90 average cost) to take a AP exam for college credit. Check the AP credit policy at the college of choice to confirm what score is required in order to award credit. Core Class Selection

Dual credit courses are offered during summer as well as the school year. Deadlines to be aware of: -Request a dual credit course in Choices 360 on course selection day January 24th -Submit qualifying TSI test scores or test exemptions to Mrs. Zinnia Deleon by April 18th. -Deadline to submit summer dual credit course request – April 18th. -Deadline to submit enrollment forms for the 2019-20 school year Dual Credit program – May 3rd. Four Year Planning / Course Selections • Log on to www.choices360.com • Review the classes selected for next year • Make any changes needed to your courses selected in Choices 360 NOTE: Graduation Plans (Endorsements) may not be changed in Choices360. You must consult with your counselorprior to an endorsement change. Changing your endorsement without your counselor’s approval may result in a delay of graduation.

Course Selection • Select 7 courses per year • Use a combination of year-long and/or semester-long courses • When selecting courses, consider the following: • Graduation requirements (Foreign Language, Fine Art, PE, and Electives) • Endorsement requirements • Student strengths • Career interests and career goals • Post-secondary goals • Access the Humble ISD Course Guide for course descriptions and course pre-requisites.

Students earn 0.5 credit for each class they successfully pass each semester. • Students can average to pass to regain credit • Example: 1st semester = 65 (earns no credit) 2nd semester = 75 (earns 0.5 credit) Average for the semester = 70 (regain 0.5 credit from 1st semester) • Students must earn 6 credits at the end of their 9th grade year to be classified as a Sophomore. • Students must earn 12 credits at the end of their 10th grade year to be classified a Junior.   23. Successful completion of Algebra 1 is necessary before enrolling in any other math course. Any student who has not successfully completed Algebra 1 and therefore unable to enroll in a sequenced math course the following year will put themselves in danger of not being able to meet graduation requirements on time. Average to Pass - If two semesters average to a 70, the student will receive 1 full year of credit • Humble ISD Summer School • After School Credit Recovery - Contact your house counselor or Ms. Toro for further information asap. • Texas Tech Correspondence Course • Texas Tech Credit By Exam NOTE – Semester grades are viewable in the Home Access Center (HAC). Counselors will be working with FRESHMEN to complete their course selections on January 23rd and 24th. • Counselors will be working with SOPHOMORES to complete their course selections on January 30th and 31st. • Choices 360 will be open to students and parents to make changes until February 15th. • Classes fill up very quickly so it is important to select wisely. • Students will receive a course verification sheet at the beginning of April and the beginning of May. • Parents can view their child’s Personal Graduation Plans, Class Selections, Endorsement, Goals, Interests Inventories along with much more on www.choices360.com. Important Information and Dates Be sure to check your child’s four year plan / course selections before deadlines!

District CTE Expo – Tuesday, February 5th from 4:30 until 7:30 pm at the Humble Civic Center Students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about Career and Technology courses offered. AHS College Readiness Information Night – Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30 pm. Parents are encouraged to attend to gather information on how to help prepare your child for college. Upcoming Dates
