10. Passage: • Seepage also known as average linear velocity is the flow or a fluid through soil pores in any direction. After measuring or estimating the intrinsic permeability (ki),one can calculate the hydraulic conductivity (k) of a soil , and the rate of seepage can be estimated. • K has the unit m/s and is average velocity of water passing through a porous medium under a unit hydraulic gradient. • It is the proportionality constant between average velocity and hydraulic gradient in darcy`s law.

Passage: • In most natural and engineering situations the hydraulic gradient is less than one so the value of K for a soil generally represent the maximum likely velocity of seepage.a typical value of hydraulic conductivity for natural sands is around 1*10^-3m/s while k for clays in similar to that of concrete.the quantity of seepage under dams an sheet piling can be estimated using the graphical construction know as a flow net . When the seepage velocity is great enough, erosion can occur because of the frictional drag exerted on the soil particles. Vertically upwards seepage is a source of danger on the downstream side of sheet piling and beneath the toe of dam or levee.

12. ترجمه • گذشته از این نشت به عنوان متوسط سرعت خطی جریانسیالی میان منافذ مختلف خاک در هر مسیری است. با اندازه گیری یا تخمین سرعت واقعی kiمیتوان هدایت هیدرولیکی k یک خاک و سرعت نشت تخمین زد.واحد k متر بر ثانیه و برابر سرعت متوسط آب عبوری از میان خلل و فرج متوسط در شرایط گرادیان هیدرولیکی واحد است.این مقدار در قانون دارسی نسبتی ثابت میان متوسط سرعت و گرادیان هیدرولیکی است.در اکثر موقعیت های طبیعی و مهندسی گرادیان هیدرولیکی کمتر از یک است. لذا به طور کلی مقدار k برای خاک بیانگر حداکثر سرعت ممکن نشت می باشد.نمونه ای از هدایت هیدرولیکی برای ماسه طبیعی در محدوده3-^10*1 متر بر ثانیه است در حالی که برای رس مشابه هدایت هیدرولیکی بتن است.میزان نشت موجود در زیر سدها و ردیف های سپری با استفاده از ترکیبات گرافیکی موسوم به خطوط جریان تخمین زده میشود.وجود شیب هیدرولیکی باعث بزرگ شدن نیروی نشت شده که باعث ایجاد فرسایش به دلیل نیروی نشت اصطحکاک موجود در ذرات خاک میشود.نیروهای نشت عمودی خطرجدی در پایین دست ردیفهای سپری و تحت پاشنه سد یا خاکریز هستند.
