  2. Pele is considered the best soccer player that ever lived.

  3. What happened in the beginning? • He was raised in a very poor family in Tres Coracos, Brazil • His name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento • He was born on October 23, 1940. Pele was the first born of three children.

  4. How did it happen • He was not noticed until he was 11 years old. • He first learned the game of soccer from his father, who was a center forward until his career was ended by a fractured leg.

  5. Accomplishments • He scored 1281 goals in his career. • He played in 1360 games. • He almost scored 1 goal per game. That is crazy for a soccer player. • He was the youngest player to win a world cup when he was 17 years old. In that same game he scored two goals. • He played on 4 world cup teams for Brazil and won 3 world cup championships.

  6. Pele Comes to the U.S. • Pelé came out of retirement in 1975 when he joined the New York Cosmos. He retired from soccer for good in 1979.
