  1. Welcome to grade 9 Essential science (Snc 1L)!

  2. About the course: • There are 4 units in this course: Unit 1 Scientific Inquiry: Science in Daily Life Unit 2 Chemistry: Properties of Common Materials Unit 3 Biology: Staying Alive Unit 4 Physics: Electrical Circuits

  3. About the course: • Important information, such as: announcements, handouts & some notes will be posted on classnet

  4. About Mrs. Rickert • The following are a few of my interests:

  5. How to succeed in this class Don’t be late for class: • Every 4th late will result in a lunch detention. • If you do happen to be late, please quietly sign in at the late binder and provide the reason.

  6. How to succeed in this class Show up ready to work: • Be on time for class, with something to write with, and paper to write on • Please check the front board as you come into the classroom, and follow any instructions on it. • Participate in class discussions. • Be in the correct school uniform. • You may not listen to music in class. • There is no use of cell phones in class.

  7. How to succeed in this class Do your work • All work is assigned for a reason, so please complete it! Ask for help • Make sure to get help if you don’t understand anything during class, and ask questions to help you complete your assignments. I am available for extra help most days before school, 3rd during lunch, and after school!

  8. How to succeed in this class Hand in everything on time • An assignment is considered incomplete if it is not handed in by the beginning of class the day that it is due. • Incomplete assignments will result in a phone call home. • Incomplete assignments will be deducted 1/3 of a level if an assignment is not handed in on the due date (at beginning of class). Another 1/3 of a level will be deducted per day the assignment is not handed in. This process will continue until a mark of zero may be awarded.

  9. How to succeed in this class Leaving during class • If you must leave the classroom, choose APPROPRIATE time to ask – not while I’m teaching! Dismissal • Please remain in the classroom, and stay seated until the bell ends the class. Missed classes • Check classnet for any missed handouts or important announcements. • Ask other students in the class for their notes to get caught up on work from days you miss. • If you know you will be away ahead of time, find out what you are going to miss.

  10. How to succeed in this class • Respect everyone in the classroom!!! “Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge.” - Carl Sagan
