    2. Using Data to Differentiate Instruction Here at Kingsolver, we are moving towards data-driven decision making. Using data allows us to identify student needs. Who is excelling? They need enrichment. Who is struggling? They need an intervention. How can we ensure that all students continue to achieve? Using data allows us to monitor student progress throughout the year and make informed decisions as educators. At weekly grade level meetings, teachers share strategies for interventions, enrichment, and overall effective instruction. Because reading is such a vital skill, we are looking at the DRA data to inform our decision making for the fall. Grade level teams also look at the results on chapter and unit tests in all subject areas. Common tests and standardized assessments allow us to compare student performance. If one class does especially well on the bar graph section of a math test, for example, the teacher may be able to share tips and techniques on how to teach this skill effectively. Individual teachers carve out a portion of their day to help students who are struggling, and grade levels may decide to pool their resources to provide enrichment or interventions to groups of students with similar needs. Using data to drive instruction and ongoing collaboration among teachers are research-proven ways to increase student achievement. Please stay tuned for further data on this wall!

    3. Kindergarten Assessment Data Please note: The Kindergarten assessment includes letter recognition and letter-sound correspondence. Kindergarteners take the DRA in the late spring.

    9. Welcome, New Third Graders! We have 53 third graders in 3 classes 27 out of the 53 (51%) are new to Kingsolver this year 18 out of 27 transferred from a non-DoDEA school 9 out of 27 transferred from a DoDEA school Our interventions are ensuring that we meet the needs of students with diverse educational backgrounds during times of family transition Looking at multiple measures (DRA and SRI) allows us greater insight into student achievement

    14. Data-Driven Decision Making In the true spirit of kaizen, there is always room for improvement Our Continuous School Improvement Team decided that math problem solving skills, expository writing, and reading comprehension skills are our areas of focus this year Reading comprehension skills carry over to all areas of standardized testing Math problems are often de facto reading comprehension problems

    15. Watch this space! Now that we have all of this data, what are we doing with it? We’ve created small, fluid intervention groups and are ensuring that students’ needs are met at the extra support, on target, and challenge levels We have a data wall posted right by our office as well – come check it out!
