  2. Introduction The workshop course will introduce methodological approaches to as well as practical / technical skills in analysing qualitative (textual) data and building a sociological theory. The emphasis will be put on ‘bottom-up’ methods of data analysis— especially on the ‘grounded theory’. HigherSchoolofEconomics , Moscow, 2012

  3. Introduction ‘Atlas.ti’ is a state-of-the-art CAQDAS (computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software) which is used by many academic and commercial research organisations all over the world. HigherSchoolofEconomics , Moscow, 2012

  4. Teaching • 28 hours of in-class teaching. • Lectures, practical exercises and discussions of results. • A data set and all required readings will be provided on a CD-ROM. HigherSchoolofEconomics , Moscow, 2012

  5. Assessment • Frequent in-class participation; • Research notes and data codings; • Final report; • Oral presentation of the results; • Final test. HigherSchoolofEconomics , Moscow, 2012

  6. Outcomes After finishing this course its participants will be able to conduct qualitative data analysis using the whole variety of tools provided in the Atlas.ti CAQDAS package. They will also deepen their knowledge in the qualitative social research methodology, improve their academic writing skills in English and their ability to discuss research-related issues in a project team.
