  2. Background • Primary 7 residential forms part of Health and Wellbeing curriculum • Cluster residential at the start of the P7 session enable the children to create bonds outwith their usual friendships in preparation for their transition to high school • Allows, where possible, the class teacher to establish relationships with the children early in the year

  3. WHEN AND WHERE Mon 14 - 18 Sept 2020 Dalguise, Near Dunkeld (Perthshire) ‘Cluster’ residential which will be an exciting part of the P7 transitional year.

  4. Accommodation • Purpose built chalets with en-suite bunk rooms for the children. • Staff accommodation in same chalets as children.

  5. Accommodation • Rooms allocated near to departure and shared on arrival • Bedding is provided, towels are not!

  6. Staffing • The children will usually be accompanied by; • Six or seven adults (DHT, teachers and parent helpers) • PGL ‘groupies’ who will familiarise them with routines at Dalguise • Trained instructors, employed by PGL, who will lead all of the activities

  7. Activities • Tree Climb • Sequoia Scramble • Orienteering • Giant Swing • Abseiling • Challenge Course • Quad bikes • Mountain Bikes • Zip Wire • Fencing • Archery • And a range of evening activities too!

  8. A typical day… • 7.40am- Breakfast • 9.00am- 1st activity • 10.30am- 2nd activity • 12.10pm- Lunch • 2.00pm- 3rd activity • 3.30pm- 4th activity • 5.45pm- Dinner • 7.15-8.45pm- Evening Entertainment • 9.00- Bed • 9.30- Lights out!!

  9. Clothing and equipment • No specialist clothing is required • Walking or other sturdy boots & outdoor trainers • Waterproof/warm coat • Waterproof trousers • Indoor shoes (not slippers) • Old clothes! • Hat & gloves • Water bottle • Torch • Name & label everything!

  10. Meals • Packed lunch required on Monday. • The Centre provides three meals each day including lunch on Friday • Special diets or requirements are catered for, details of these will be required in advance.

  11. Pocket money • Small gift shop – timetabled visit one evening during residential. • Suggest that there be a maximum amount of £10.00!

  12. Blue Cards • SBC prefer pupils to obtain blue card to participate in water based activities, however if not achieved then parental permission will be sought to allow pupils to participate. • Kayaking and/or raft building • As part of PE programme, two swimming blocks to achieve, one in P5 and one in P6 • Can be assessed at any Borders pool by arrangement

  13. MISCELLANEOUS • No iPods, handheld games, mobiles, etc. • No large Teddy Bears! (small ones are allowed) • Pupils may bring cameras. (named disposable ones are great) • A watch is very useful. • A small torch • They need to be able to carry their luggage.

  14. Safety • All activities are planned with regard to safe practice. The Centre has a strict safety policy. • All the activities take place within the grounds of Dalguise. • All Centre staff are trained and qualified in the activities they instruct. All staff have first response first aid training. • Scottish Government recommendations and British Activity Holiday Association Guidelines are adopted as the minimum operating standards. Other activities also have their own Activity Safety Policy. • Code of conduct • Coach fitted with seat belts

  15. Medical • Medical Form EV2 –identifies any issues that children may need support with, including night time routines if necessary • Prescription medication • The Centre has trained first aiders • First aid kit on the bus, and calpol taken. • Agreement with a local doctor

  16. Communication • Mobile phones are not permitted • Communication will take place daily, usually through a BLOG. • Contact with Dalguise only in an emergency

  17. COST • One week at Dalguise £304.00 • Transport (including snacks for the week) £25.00(max) • TOTAL £329.00(max) Some financial support can be accessed if necessary, depending on family circumstances.

  18. PAYMENTS • Deposit (non-refundable) 15TH May 2019 £45 • Interim instalment 11th October 2019 £65 • Final instalment 5th June 2020 £219 (TBC) Total £329 max [50% discount for second twin on PGL cost only]

  19. Ten Top Tips from previous residential pupils for ‘Enjoying your Residential Week’ • Pack your own suitcase so you know what is in it and can repack it for coming home! • Have a go at all the activities. The motto is ‘Challenge by Choice’ You set yourself a target and aim for it. You can do more than you think!! • Bring a water bottle, a small rucksack and a torch for the evening activities. • Be well behaved and it will be better fun! • Stick to bedtime rules. You need loads of sleep so that you are not tired in the morning. • Be a good team player, encourage your friends. • Come well prepared for all weather and make sure that you are dressed appropriately for each activity. • Keep your belongings and room tidy so you can find everything easily. • Have at least one shower in the week! • Have fun and enjoy yourself because you will be home before you know it!
