  1. The Slave Trade

  2. As we are all white abolitionists – our aim is to stop the slave trade We are going to focus in three main points/arguments: • Humanity Issues • Religious Issues • Popular poems sang by slaves

  3. Humanity • Slaves are not animals, which means they should not be checked, bought or sold like one • Owners should work for themselves to earn the crops and money • If slavery does exist, they should be treated equally and fairly • They should get paid

  4. Being whipped with no particular reason Being hung and left to die Being put in shackles Being forced to walk on the trendmill Humanity – Punishments Slaves are punished in very harsh ways, such as:

  5. Humanity - Conditions • 10 – 12 slaves simply cannot fit in this little hut: • While plantation owners live in these kind of houses: • They should receive and deserve better working and resting area, they should rest longer and work less so that they are not tired • Better housing needed and at the VERY least, a proper bed • A roof that does not leak would be ideal! See the difference?

  6. Working Conditions

  7. Religious Issues • GOD does not support slavery! • Every human is equal in God’s eyes • Everyone has the right to worship their own God and they shall not be forced to join to another religion • God will treat the plantation owner just like they treat the slaves

  8. Here are some poems describing the slaves MY mother bore me in the southern wild,    And I am black, but O, my soul is white!White as an angel is the English child,    But I am black, as if bereaved of light. My mother taught me underneath a tree,    And, sitting down before the heat of day,She took me on her lap and kissèd me,    And, pointing to the East, began to say: 'Look at the rising sun: there God does live,    And gives His light, and gives His heat away,And flowers and trees and beasts and men receive    Comfort in morning, joy in the noonday. It was in sweet Senegal that my foes did me enthrall   For the lands of Virginia-ginia O;Torn from that lovely shore, and must never see it more,   And alas! I am weary, weary O!      Torn from &c. All on that charming coast is no bitter snow and frost,   Like the lands of Virginia-ginia O;There streams for ever flow, and there flowers for ever blow,   And alas! I am weary, weary O!      There streams &c.
