  2. History • Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in February 18 1930 • Pluto got its name by an 11 year old girl Vanetia Burney • Pluto’s sign is a monogram of a P and L.

Solar System • Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto • Pluto’s distance from the sun is 5.9 billion km but the exact number is 5,906,376,272 km. • Pluto’s orbital period is 248 years • Pluto’s Rotation days are 6.39 • This picture shows that Pluto is far away from the other planets

  4. Moons • Pluto has five moons • Charon, Nix, Styx, Kerberos, and Hydra

  5. Planet appearance • Pluto has rocky mountains • Pluto’s surface is chilly • Methane and ice cover most part of Pluto • Pluto has a reddish tint • This is a picture of Pluto as it says in the facts it has a reddish tint

  6. Rings • Scientists think that Pluto has rings because of its moons Nix and Hydra. They are a few kilometers away from Pluto.

  7. Exploration • New Horizons discovered Pluto in Jan 19 2006 • When NASA’s spacecraft got to Pluto NASA took a picture of the spacecraft New Horizons that is the background photo.

  8. Interesting Facts • Pluto can experience really strong winds -400 degrees Fahrenheit Pluto spins backwards from East to West Some astronomers discovered Pluto had a very large moon

  9. Dwarf Planets • There are 5 dwarf planets • Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Haumea, Makemake • Pluto, Eris, and Ceres may have thin atmospheres

  10. Interesting Facts • Ceres is located in the asteroid belt • Pluto is considered as a king because it’s the largest dwarf planet • All the dwarf planets are not considered a planet
