PARTNER SCHOOL: FONTS DEL GLORIETA Agenda of the meeting: - a seminar where participants present a written and media report on the effectiveness of teaching methods and literacy activities performed in the first year; - lesson observations, exhibitions of pupils’ work; - cultural visits; - social programme – intercultural exchanges;

  5. Cultural visit: SALOU The city is approximately 10 km from Tarragona and Reus on the Costa Daurada and 112 km from Barcelona. Aside from its string of beaches interrupted by rocky coves, and its landscaped promenade, one of its main attractions is the PortAventura resort.

  6. Cultural visit: SALOU • In the middle of the esplanade Passeig de Jaume I is the monument of its namesake. This monument helps the town of Salouto commemorate the most important event in their history when, in 1229, the king Jaume I left for sea with his armies to conquer the Balearic Isles. • The monument to the fisherman is a symbol of the town’s seafaring roots and it’s the work of Ramon Ferran inaugurated in 1990.

  13. ALCOVER - Visiting the Museum The exhibition provides visitors with examples of perfectly conserved marine fossils predating the appearance of the large dinosaurs of the Jurassic period.

  20. Trip to CAMBRILS A classy fishing town, Cambrils is one of the most popular places to head for a picturesque getaway on the Costa Dorada. It sits about 100 km south of Barcelona on Spain's craggy and beautiful North-East coastline.

Trip to CAMBRILS The monument 'in the Pla de les Serenes' is a group of sculptures, six elements, who celebrates its centenary in 1911 victims, known as the "Year of the Misfortunes" since 1911 along coastal fishermen died many Catalan and Valencian, several of them in Cambrils: •The Dolça i la Calma two mythological creatures; •Adrià, young fisherman, who represent the future and hope.

  23. Back to ALCOVER: HUMAN PYRAMIDS The "castellers" of Catalonia form human pyramids, named castells ("castles"), up to ten men high. In Catalonia, several statues commemorate this old tradition.

  24. Trip to BARCELONA:SagradaFamília The nave in the SagradaFamilia with a hyperboloid vault. Inspiration from nature is taken from a tree, as the pillar and branches symbolise trees rising up to the roof. From 1915 Gaudí devoted himself almost exclusively to his magnum opus, the SagradaFamília, a synthesis of his architectural evolution.

  26. Trip to BARCELONA: Park Güell The salamander in Park Güell has become a symbol of Gaudí's work. Gaudi introduced new techniques in the treatment of materials, such as trencadís, made of waste ceramic pieces.

  29. Trip to TARRAGONA:Visiting TARRACO ROMANA In Roman times, the city was named Tarraco and was capital of the province of Hispania Tarraconensis. The Roman ruins of Tarraco have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Trip to TARRAGONA:Visiting TARRACO ROMANA •The Cathedral, dating to the 12th-13th centuries, combining Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. • Tarragona Amphitheatrewas built at the end of 1st century BC and the start of 2nd century BC (Before Christ), down from the walls and facing the sea.  It could house up to 15,000 spectators, and measured 130 x 102 m.
