  3. Available Awards Service Unit Award: Volunteer of Excellence Board Approved Awards: Appreciation Pin Honor Pin President’s Award Thanks Badge I Thanks Badge II GSWPA Annual Award: Volunteer of the Year Volunteer Awards presented by Outside Organizations

Volunteer of Excellence The Volunteer of Excellence award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through use of the national program portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of the council’s mission delivery to girl and adult members. • Service Unit Award • Nominees Must be Registered, Active Members • Nomination Form and 2 Letters of Recommendation • Approved by Service Unit Director/Membership Manager • Rolling Deadline • Pin is paid for by the Service Unit or Nominator • May be presented at the Fall/Spring Town Hall Meeting or at a ceremony prepared by the Service Unit

  5. AppreciationPin The Appreciation Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This service, which has had measureable impact on one geographic area of service, helps reach and surpass the mission-delivery goals of the area. • Candidate is active, registered Girl Scout member • Nomination Form and Two Letters of Recommendation • The service performed by the candidate is above and beyond the expectations for the position held, and made an impact on a geographic area within the council’s jurisdiction. • Nomination Form Due February 1 or August 10 • Presentations May Occur at the Fall/Spring Town Hall Meeting

Honor Pin The Honor Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which has had measurable impact on two or more geographic areas of service, allowing the council to reach and surpass its mission-delivery goals. • Candidate is active, registered Girl Scout member • Nomination Form and Three letters of endorsement • The service performed by the candidate is above and beyond the expectations for the position held and made an impact on two or more geographic areas within the council jurisdiction. • Nomination Form Due February 1 or August 10 • Presentations May Occur at the Fall/Spring Town Hall Meeting

President’sAward The President’s Award recognizes the efforts of a service-delivery team or committee whose exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience surpassed team goals and resulted in significant, measurable impact toward reaching the council’s overall goals. • All service-team members are registered Girl Scouts. • All service-team members have met all requirements and expectations of the positions held. • The service-delivery team has significantly contributed to meeting one or more of the council’s mission-delivery goals • The service-delivery team reflects the diversity of the target audience or area it serves, in girl and adult membership, in all pathways offered. • The service-delivery team actively recognizes, understands, and practices the values of inclusive behavior. • Nomination Form Due February 1 or August 10 • Presentations will Occur at the Annual Meeting in April • Certificate and Group Name will be recorded on a plaque

Thanks Badge The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire council or the entire Girl Scout Movement. • Candidate is active, registered Girl Scout member • Four (4) letters of endorsement • The outstanding service performed by the candidate resulted in outcomes that benefitted the total council or the entire Girl Scout organization, and is so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate. • Nomination Form Due February 1 • Presentations Occur at the Annual Meeting in April

Thanks Badge II The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge award recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role, resulting in a measurable impact that benefits the entire Girl Scout Movement. • Candidate is active, registered Girl Scout member • Nomination Form and Four letters of endorsement • Candidate has already received the Thanks Badge • The outstanding service performed by the candidate resulted in outcomes that benefitted the total council or the entire Girl Scout organization, and is so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate. • Nomination Form Due February 1 • Presentations will occur at the Annual Meeting in April

Volunteer of the Year The Volunteer of the Year award celebrates the work of a volunteer who has made a significant impact on the entire Council with their time, talent, and treasure in the last service year and which merits council-wide recognition. This award is only given to one volunteer per year, and candidates may not receive the award more than once. • Candidate is active, registered Girl Scout member • Nomination Form and Four letters of endorsement • The outstanding service performed by the candidate resulted in outcomes that benefitted the total council or the entire Girl Scout organization. This action must have occurred WITHIN THE PAST GIRL SCOUT YEAR • Nomination Form Due February 1 • Presentation will occur at the Annual Meeting in April

  11. Volunteer Awards from Outside Organizations • Be on the lookout for awards presented by outside organizations. We will do our best to support your efforts in nominating that person in any way we can. • If you hear of an available Volunteer Award in Western Pennsylvania, please let us know about it!

  12. The Process: Nominating a Volunteer Step 1: Be on the lookout for volunteers who go above and beyond on behalf of Girl Scouts!

  13. The Process: Nominating a Volunteer Step 2: Decide which award best fits the type of outstanding service you have seen from a volunteer! Remember: Award descriptions are available in Volunteer Essentials.

  14. The Process: Nominating a Volunteer Step 3: Complete the nomination form (available in Volunteer Essentials and at www.gswpa.org): Clearly state the personal achievements of the candidate, and specifically state the reasons that the candidate’s achievements meet the criteria for this particular award.

  15. The Process: Nominating a Volunteer Step 4: Recruit additional people to write the required letters of endorsement: Be sure to communicate the deadline for submission (set by you) and to whom they should return the completed letter. Letters of Endorsement should be neatly printed or typed.

Quick Introduction to the GSWPA ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION • Goal: To create a database/network of Alumnae throughout Western Pennsylvania—current and past volunteers—of all ages. • Goal: To offer social opportunities for like minded adults to come together, have fun, talk Girl Scouts, and connect with staff. • Goal: To serve girls by engaging smart, talented, and dedicated alumnae in programming opportunities • Goal: To increase our volunteer base, re-engage alumnae, and keep our organization strong Be on the lookout for our Spring Social, once the weather breaks. We will be coming to an area near you!
