(Close your eyes and visualize my words) • Beautiful or handsome significant other and 1 boy and 1 girl with a 1 ½ story home with a white picket fence. • Hummer, rims, sports car, huge house, in-ground pool, jewelry, clothes, no debt problems, pro-athlete/entertainer, dream job, etc. • Collage of past, present and future- now how are you going to get everything that you want in life?

  3. Potential is not everything!Obstacles are not an excuse! • Mr. Prospect’s situation! • Mr. Mike Moultrie’s situation!

  4. This is the Bottom Line • Face it, nobody owes you a living! What you achieve or fail to achieve in your lifetime is directly related to what you do. No one chooses his/her parents or childhood, but you can choose your own direction. Everyone has problems and obstacles to overcome, but that too is relative to each individual. Nothing is carved in stone. You can change anything in your life if you want to badly enough. Excuses are for losers! Those who take responsibility for their actions are the real winners in life. Winners meet life’s challenges head on knowing there are no guarantees and give it all they’ve got and never think it’s too late or too early to begin. Time plays no favorites and will pass whether you act or not. Take control of your life! Dare to dream and take risks! Compete! If you aren’t willing to work for your goals, don’t expect others to;BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

The Facts….. • Adults who don’t finish HS in the U.S. earn 65% less than those that do have a high school degree. • 44% of HS dropouts come from families classified as “low-income.” • Approximately 1/3 of American HS students don’t finish on time. • In the U.S., an adult with a college degree earns 72% more than someone with only a HS degree. • Example: HS grad makes- $30,000 Dropout makes- $10,500 College grad makes- $51,600

  7. Dreams/Goals • What will my house be like? • How do I want my family to be? • What will I be driving? • When do I want to retire? • What career path will make me happy! • How do I define Happy?

  8. Responsibility in Setting Goals: • You must be active participants in setting academic goals for yourself. • You must decide in how to accomplish these goals. • You must be constantly accessing your achievements and/or failures in so that you can move forward towards your goals.

Others will help: • You will have adults and peers whom will influence you positively and/or negatively. • Peer Pressure: -Which direction will I take? -As simple as yes or no! • Your decision will get a result, like it or not. • Contacts (BRIDGES) make life better! Do NOT burn your bridges!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Getting Started • Express your goals with positive language • Be precise (Dates, times, amounts, etc.) • Set priorities (Rank them by importance) • Write goals down (Post them up) • Today’s goals should be derived from larger goals
