Rationale for this Strategy • The Fund’s call for advocacy, strategic alliances and mobilization. • The Fund presents a valuable opportunity • Citizen engagement is critical to MDG achievement • There is a clear obligation to be transparent • Risk management will be critical in the coming years

  3. Overall Goal Accelerate progress on the MDGs by raising awareness, strengthening broad-based support and action and increasing citizen engagement in MDG policy and practice.

  4. Outcome 1Increased awareness and support for the MDGs and the Fund INTERVENTIONS • Strategic partnerships with the media • National and local level awareness raising: key events • Joining hands with select civil society organizations on MDG advocacy • Working with UNCG for joint MDG communications

  5. Outcome 2Leverage programmes for increased MDG results INTERVENTIONS • Encourage national appropriation of positive policy frameworks • Strengthen civil society organization and participation • Facilitate knowledge sharing for scaling up and advocacy. • Working with key partners towards the 2010 global MDG Review

  6. Outcome 3 Achieve greater accountability and transparency INTERVENTIONS • To all partners, including Governments, citizens and donor- access to information and opportunities for effective participation • Ensure clarity and consistency of outcomes sought, messages transmitted • Build MDG-F identity ensuring appropriate visibility

  7. Strategic Partnerships • Wider coverage and outreach • Greater legitimacy • Comparative advantage and expertise • Avoid duplication • More cost-effective

Opportunities and challenges • 52 countries with Joint Programmes- guidance • Joint UN offers leveraging power and outreach • Nine focus countries for more in depth work • Capacity in communication and advocacy • Limited resources allocated to this area • Weak partnerships with non-state actors • Restricted space for CSO activity in some countries
