  3. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona was founded in 1968. The founders aimed to establish four principles of autonomy: freedom to select teaching staff, admission available to all students (but with a limited number), freedom to create its own study plans and freedom to administrate the University's capital. It is therefore a young university, but in its short history it has moved forward at a rapid pace.

  9. Participation in other international exchanges Participation in Postgraduate and PhD courses in Argentina, Chili, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, Venezuela. In service Training of Early Childhood School Teachers in Chili. In service training of Secondary Teachers in Chili and Argentina.

EUROPE, a new framework for teaching • New skills, new challenges for educators to learn and teach for: • Living and working together in a intercultural and diverse society. • Avoiding misconceptions and stereotypes • Introduction of a compulsory subject on Europe with the aim of a better knowledge of Europe as a common geographical, cultural and historical framework: • Reading the map of Europe: an approach to the territory • 2. Peoples, cultures and borders: a difficult puzzle to set • 3. From a Europe of migrants to a Europe of immigration 4. A long and complex process: the European Union 5. Europe in the school: actions and programs.

The Faculty of Sciences of Education offers a 15 ECTS cross-curricular course for international students: Educating and teaching in intercultural societies An international study environment where to share learning activities with students from other cultures A favourable setting to promote a better intercultural understanding of foreign cultures and their values. · The experience of being immersed in a foreign language and culture. · The possibility of working in a Primary school, through a period of practice · A way to enhance their training and personal growth. From February to May, 2008.

The UAB partners offers their contribution to the FACE IT Project • Awareness on culture as common European heritage • Knowledge on cultural, social and historical issues • Experience in intercultural teaching • Background in the teaching about Europe • Expertise in curriculum development projects • Skills in international project work and management

FACE IT Project will be implemented in: • Course on European Issues (compulsory on the second year of undergraduated trainees) • Education for Citizenship and Human Rights (open to all the university students) • Art Education (Visual culture for Early Childhood and Primary Education) • International course ”Educating and teaching in Intercultural societies” (for Erasmus students) • Master course on Intercultural Education
