  2. Early life • Martin LutherKingJunior was born on 15th January 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. Like all black people in USA in the twentieth century he experienced racism in everyday life. His two parents were Baptist preachers wanted him to have a good opinion of himself. • Kings birthplace

  3. Racial Segregation • In December 1955 Rosa Parks was travelling on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama when white man got on the bus and the driver told her to get up from her seat. She said NO and was arrested and put in jail. • MartinLutherKingJunior heard about Mrs. Parks and encouraged his friends and family to help her. He told black people to boycott the buses although they depended on them to get around. • On 6th June 1956 racial segregation on buses was ruled illegal .   4. The Ku Klux Klan (kkk) • The kkk’s were an organisation which dates back to the 1860s. They terrorised black neighbourhoods and burned down houses and churches. They worked at night and wore masks, robes and cardboard hats. The only people who knew the members were fellow members . They also terrorised white people who were sympathetic to black people.

  6. MartinLutherKing Junior's Death • On the 4th of April king was on a tour in Memphis, Tennessee. He was standing on the balcony of his hotel room when he got shot. • A gunman called James Earl Ray shot him from a hotel opposite kings room. • He was thirty nine years old.

  7. Summary • If it wasn't for Martin Luther King Jr black people would not have their rights in America till this day. • Barack Obama was the first black president of the USA. This wouldn't have been possible without the work of Martin Luther King Junior. • The kkk's are still running to this very day although their numbers have rapidly decreased. • In 1964 Martin Luther King Junior won a Nobel peace prize.
