  1. New Beginnings Church of Christ at Medina January 2nd, 2011

  2. John 3:1-15 3:1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

  3. John 3:1-15 9Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. 12If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

  4. Resolution # 1: New Birth • It’s a spiritual birth. • “My kingdom is not of this world...” - John 18:36 • The birth includes water. • Acts 2:38 • Acts 22:16 • Galatians 3:27 • 1 Peter 3:21 • The birth is a culmination of a change in life. • 1 Peter 1:22-25 • James 1:18 • Acts 16:14-15

  5. Romans 6:12-14 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

  6. Resolution # 2: New walk • The majority of us here today have already been born again into the kingdom, but have we been walking with God? • 1 Peter 5:8 – Satan is trying to trip us up. • Galatians 5:16-26 • Our life is a constant walk with two choices – in the flesh or in the Spirit. • We must choose to walk as children of light. (Eph. 5:8-10) • Example: Daniel • Daniel “resolved that he would not defile himself...” • How about me? Have I resolved to keep my walk with God pure?

  7. Resolution # 3: New goal • Philippians 3:14-15. • “Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.” • Our goal everyday should be to grow closer to God. This can only be accomplished by growing closer to the things He has revealed about Himself in His word. • Psalm 119:9-16

  8. Psalm 119:9-16 9 How can a young man keep his way pure?By guarding it according to your word. 10With my whole heart I seek you;let me not wander from your commandments! 11I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 12Blessed are you, O Lord;teach me your statutes! 13With my lips I declareall the rules of your mouth. 14In the way of your testimonies I delightas much as in all riches. 15I will meditate on your preceptsand fix my eyes on your ways. 16I will delight in your statutes;I will not forget your word.

  9. Conclusion • Resolution # 1: Begin with a new birth! • Resolution # 2: Resolve to walk pure! • Resolution # 3: Determine to know Him more!
