TRADITIONAL WIND SIKUS: CHILI, MALTA ,BASTOS AND TOYOS Students will learn the different sounds of the siku (pipe flute) Sergio will bring all sizes of his flutes, the smallest, one inch, throught the biggest almost 5 feet long. He will play all the flutes using one melody to differentiate all the notes of each flute. QUENAS (like recorder flute); QUENILLA, QUENA, QUENACHO Sergio will show all his family of quenas; Sergio will play the quena to show how 3 octaves can be played on just one wooden or bamboo flute. From the high pitch on quenillas to the low, deep pitch on quenacho. NEXT

  2. TRADITIONAL PERCUSSION BOMBO (animal skin drum); CHAKCHAS (made from fruit seeds or animal hooves); RAINSTICK, PERUVIAN MARACAS TRADITIONAL STRING INSTRUMENTS HULAYCHO, CHARANGO, RONROCO. Three diferent sizes of charangos. A melody will played on each one so the students can hear the differences on these strings. Sergio will talk about the charango history and tunnng. Charangos are made from Peruavian Armadillo shells and some are from wood. Students can learn to play a melody from the andes on the sikus, or can learn a ful song. Younger students can learn to play rhythms from the diferent regions on our percussion instruments. Techniques used to blow the sikus are demonstrate and how Sergio learned as a child to play the siku. PREVIOUS
