  2. Reason for Choosing Topic • I am interested in the education of special needs students. • I thought I wanted a future career in this field. • This topic is very controversial and I found a lot of information about it. • Education is the key to the lives of young people.

  3. Research • Mainstreaming is educating students with special needs in regular classes during specific time periods based on their skills. • Mainstreaming is personalized to every student. • Inclusion is just another word for mainstream.

  4. Research • I.D.E.A.- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (1975) • Graduation rates for disabled youth went up 14% between 1984 and 1997. • Enacted to give guidance. • Awareness has grown tremendously. • IDEA supports requiring schools to give the same attention to disabled students and their families.

  5. Research • Inclusion specialists are available to help a teacher with a mainstreamed student in their class. • Disabled students must be prepared and know what to expect when interacting with their peers. • School officials must be involved and show support for mainstreaming to be beneficial.

  6. Research • Disabled children get the opportunity to see how they should behave. • Teachers are pushed to learn how to accommodate all types of children. • Helps normally developing kids learn how to treat and interact with people who may be a little different from them.

  7. Obstacles I Overcame • Finding research that was repeated on multiple sources. • Meeting length requirement. • Finding credible sources.

  8. Successes • I learned how to put information together to make a good paper • A good personal story to include into my paper. • Learned the difference between good and bad research.

Reflection • I learned about myself • I manage my time well when I have deadlines to keep me on track. • I do not want to have a career in teaching. • This project will help me in the future by • Teaching me not to procrastinate. • Give 100% effort to do a good job. • This project is beneficial because • It taught me to go outside of my comfort zone. • It shows me I can achieve any big task at hand.
