The Latin Vulgate picked up on the Greek title and named the book  Numeri from which the English acquires the name Numbers. And Moses took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites:

  9. iv. The Peculiar redemption for the "odd number of firstborn". Num.3:48, 49i. The Conditions for Redemption. • All firstborn of the males of Israel from one month old belonged to the Lord. Num. 3:40 • All Levites belonged to the Lord. (3:45c) • The Levites to redeem the firstborn – (3:41) • Male firstborn of Israel and firstborn of cattle to be redeemed by the Levites and their cattle. (3:45 cf. Exo. 13:1, 2) • The odd number more than the Levites to be redeemed by five shekels of silver. (3:46-51)

The Calculation of the Odd Number: No. of males over 20 able to go to war = No. born after Firstborn Law (Ex. 13:1, 2) = [Discrepancy = No. of firstborn males = No. of Levites = • Odd Number = 603,550 males (1:45, 46) 22,273firstborn males (3:43) (581,277 – born before Exodus] 22,273- (3:43) 22,000(3:39) 273(4:46) x 5 shekels 1365shekels. (4:50)

Eph. 2:19-22; I Pet. 2:4-6 • The Board stands on sockets of silver, cp. the Christian. II Tim. 2:19; Rom. 5:2; I Cor.16:13
