  2. Methods • Writing a good methods section is important. • Readers will want to know how you performed your study. • If you don’t explain your methods well, readers will question your results.

  3. Methods • A good methods section will describe every detail of your methods, such as: • How long you performed your study (day, week, month, year, etc.) • What materials you used for your study. • Why you did certain steps in your study.

  4. How to Write A Good Methods: Imagine, that you were someone who picked up your paper but knew nothing about your study. From reading the methods section, you should be able to repeat the experiment identically.

  5. How to Write A Good Methods: Every detail is important. What you measured things with. How you measured things. How many things you measured. The brand of things that you used in your experiment.

  6. How to Write A Good Methods: The methods section requires so much detail that many times it will be the longest section in your paper.

  7. How to Write A Good Methods: You will want to talk about your independent variable: This is the variable you will manipulate in your experiment.

  8. How to Write A Good Methods: You will want to talk about your dependent variable: This is the variable that you will measure in the experiment.

  9. How to Write A Good Methods: You will want to talk about confounding variables: These are variables outside your control.

  10. How to Write A Good Methods: You will want to describe how your methods section will help you determine whether your hypothesis should be supported or rejected.

  11. Research Not all Internet sites have truthful information. Make sure that you get information from a truthful source. Wikipedia is not a source you should use.

  12. Homework Methods section on our study due on Monday Oct. 24th. You should write a detailed methods section that will help us to conduct our experiment.
