Organizations • Office of Student Access and Success: • provide prospective and current students of the College with value chain opportunities and services that will enhance their academic experiences and increase their rate of success in the school and their future careers. • Center for Diversity in Engineering and Computing: • to increase the flow of traditionally underrepresented ethnic/gender groups, and students with disabilities into the engineering, mathematics and science pipeline.

Engaging Latino Communities for Education (ENLACE) • Mission • Strengthen the educational pipeline and increase opportunities for Latinos to enter and complete college • Targeted population: • 250 children during academic year • 150 children during summer • Over 90% Hispanics • Provides academic support and enrichment opportunities to elementary school children: • Afterschool and Summer Programs • reading instruction • Technology Training • Physical fitness • Critical Thinking • Mentorship and Role models • University students work as tutors and teacher • Summer Academy is held on campus

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) • Goal: Increase graduation rates and the number of minority students entering post-secondary learning institutions. • Individual Student Tutoring • Saturday Academy • Summer Academies • Teacher Professional Development • Mentoring • Parental Involvement workshops • Going-to-College workshops • Technology Training and Assistance • Technology Infusion Program • Field Trips/College Visits

  6. Florida Action for Minorities in Engineering (FLAME) • Dual Enrollment Program • College Credit while in high school • 22 students from Coral Park Sr. High School • 2 courses in Fall 2010 • 2 courses in Spring 2011 • Visit University Centers & Research Labs on Fridays

  7. JETS Competition • High school student work in groups of four to solve engineering problems • 2010 theme “Water, Water everywhere” • Two 90 minutes parts • multiple choice questions • open ended questions

  8. Programming Competitions • Hosted by School of Computing and Information Sciences • Teams of High School Students

Scholarships • Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Engineering & Mathematics (FG-LSAMP) • South East Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (SEAGEP) • National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) • Financial support • Undergraduate research • Faculty mentoring • Networking workshops and conferences

  10. Engineering Expo The Engineering Expo is an exciting and dynamic educational experience to engage and expose our local schools and colleges to the wonders of science and engineering. By doing so it is our hope to stimulate interest in mathematics, science and technology for future generations 1300 students attend
