Report sponsored by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) • Examination of the nursing workforce • Recommendations for an blueprint action plan for the future to address perceived needs Where It All Began….

  3. Where’s the Fit? Should-Could-Would We

Strength of stated goals and objectives • Strength and length of nurse/non-nurse partnerships • Strength of existing skills, experience, assets and current efforts • Existing infrastructure • Integration of existing RWJF program resources • Ability to partner or co-lead with potential funders and/or business partners AC Criteria for Selection

Ensure that nurses can practice to full extent of their education and training • Improve nursing education • Provide opportunities for nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts • Improve data collection for workforce planning and policy-making IOM Report Recommendations

  10. Indiana Action Coalition Our Plan • Strengthen our data collection for ensuring we have the quality of workforce needed to address the health of Indiana citizens • Leader in interprofessional educational and practice • Become a magnet state for nursing practice

  11. Conceptualization of the Indiana Action Coalition Would We?

Identify activities to reflect the full scope of nursing practice • Facilitate collaborative efforts in transforming care for citizens of Indiana • Maximize utilization of clinical experiences for health related programs statewide • Collaborate with partners to review and propose relevant changes to the existing statute and/or rules related to nursing practice Indiana AC Goals

  13. Increase funding to support nurses returning for additional education leading to either an APN role or a doctorate • Implement to the fullest extent the minimum nursing data set especially as it relates to nursing supply and demand Indiana AC Goals (cont)
