  • More drivers tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent).

  • Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol

In a recent study, published in the latest issue of The Journal of Analytical Toxicology, scientists at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, there is a report on a unique method for collecting controlled substances from exhaled breath.

Swedish researchers have found that the commercially available breathing test device can be used to detect 12 controlled substances, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine
