  3. The Gantt

  4. Recommendation Based on the results of the survey the students seem quite satisfied with the Web Advisor system: • online version of the course catalog divided by major for selecting classes • online Advisor to chat to guide you through any problems you’re having with the web advisorand scheduling • easier to navigate/better organization

  5. Analysis Summary Report • The topic of the survey was chosen by Team A in order to identify key issues students encounter while using the Web Advisor system. • The goal of the project was to determine if students were satisfied with PCCC’s web advisor in terms of user friendliness and guidance provided. • The recommendations proposed will improve the guidance given to students and enable them to view transcripts and course schedules effortlessly. • With the appropriate tools PCCC students will have a better handle on their academic journey at PCCC without having to visit a counselor for everything. • The cost, effort and duration is shown on the MS Project Report. In summary: • Cost: $0.00 • Duration: 21 Days • Joint effort in every milestone of this project • Not gathering this information through a survey would leave administration unaware of the difficulties of Web Advisor and the potential the tool is not living up to. • The project was successful because it produced results necessary to propose recommendations for improvement to administration.

  8. Project Evaluation Report • Our overall experience with this particular project was challenging which in turn made it a learning experience. Prior to this class we had never written Technical Reports before. • Working with each other in Team A has been a positive experience thus far. Working together as a group is a great simulation of what it is to work in a corporate office. We each have different skill sets and opinions but value each other’s recommendations. • I believe with the variety in our backgrounds is what makes the outcomes successful. The Project planning was done by Jennifer utilizing MS Project application. • Survey Monkey was used to generate the beta test and final survey, by Billy. We did not like the unconstructive criticism initially given from our classmates, or the rush to get everything done. By doing this project we’ve learned not every criticism will be constructive and you need to choose your battles. • Our project planning skills have greatly improved. Most of us have never used MS Project or created a Gantt chart before this class and we’re interested in learning how to utilize this application better and utilize it in the future. We know now the difference between writing and technical writing. Our planning skills have improved along with our ability to generate a professional report.

Never, Once, Sometimes, Always Selected Purpose: To see if a very useful tool is actually being utilized Expectation: That most never explored this option

  10. Billy Analysis: My question # 1 Did not appear in survey Do you find the web advisor tab difficult to use? The purpose of this question was to uncover students feelings on ease of use, based on these findings we could better understand answers to questions such as “Is web advisor useful” because if most feel it’s a difficult utility, we could better understand why they found it to be not so useful. We expected that a majority of the students found the system was difficult to use or incoherent. Based on the data our assumptions were wrong, many students actually found web advisor to be a useful utility, in a similar question referring to the helpfulness of Web Advisor, 54% of students responded that web advisor was a helpful tool. Results obtained were actually the opposite of what we intended. No additional comments. My question # 2 Survey Question #3 How often do you access Web Advisor? The purpose of this question was to decide if Web Advisor was something students frequented, we wanted to know this to find correlations between ease of use and actual time accessing. We expected that many students would only access Web Advisor as few times as 2 a semester. Based on the data our assumptions were again wrong, many students actually used Web Advisor far more often than we could have presumed, 42% of students actually used Web Advisor 4 or more times a semester while 34% closely followed using web advisor 3-4 times a semester. Results obtained showed students really find web advisor useful enough that they use it all of the time. No additional comments. My question # 3 Survey Question #4 Do you feel user training is required for Web Advisor? The purpose of this question was to decide if Web Advisor was difficult to use because it didn’t come with a user manual or real training, or if it was so easy to use that user training really shouldn’t be a question. We expected that many students were capable of figuring the system out without any form of training. Based on the data our assumptions correct, 59% of students feel that user training wasn’t required. Results obtained were the same we expected. Because a small percent of students felt training was needed it may have been answered by the small percent of students who found web advisor difficult to use. My question # 4 Did not appear in the survey. Have you run into errors with web advisor? The purpose of this question was to decide if Web Advisor was reliable in all situations. We expected that many students may have run into very minor errors within the system, but still enough to put it’s reputation into question. Based on our findings and the positive feedback for Web Advisor, we don’t believe people have run into many errors if any, but it still remains a question at this time. Results obtained were the same we expected (Although not tested.) No additional comments. My question # 5 Survey Question #6 Would you prefer in person advising over web advisor? The purpose of this question was to decide if Web Advisor was a good enough means that it could cut out the middle man, so to speak, and make advising easy enough to not have to make appointments with advisors. We expected that many students would prefer the convenience of Web Advisor, and would prefer it over in person. Based on the data our assumptions were not correct, 44% of people actually preferred in person advising, while only 20% preferred online. The remaining percent said they had no preference. Results obtained were opposite of expected. No additional comments.
