  3. Overview • Churches can be effective • Identifying the big issues in Barnet • Support for the elderly and provision for young people • Effectiveness of the police

  4. Addressing issues in Barnet • Lack of provision for youth is the most common issue in Barnet, followed by drunken & anti-social behaviour • Deprivation & poverty is the least common issue in Barnet

  5. Importance of Local Issues • Crime, healthcare provision and anti-social behaviour are the primary issues for concern in Barnet • Poverty is the seen as the least important

  6. The role of the church • Encouragingly almost half of all local residents perceive local churches as effective • The police are perceived as the most effective

  7. Support to minority groups • Half of residents think Local churches are effective in supporting minority groups • Once again, the police are seen as the most effective

  8. Role of local churches • Local churches are seen to provide support in all areas • Residents think the elderly receive the highest levels of support • A high percentage ‘do not know’

  9. Community needs • The most important community need in Barnet is greater provisions for youth The youth club down the road was burnt down, that’s what’s most needed Youth clubs- a lot of them just seem to be wandering the streets with nothing to do Youth clubs- the kids are bored out of their skulls Youth provision- some sort of amusement or entertainment to keep them off the streets I don’t see any police around Solving crime, at the moment, that’s what’s annoying everyone Scouts, clubs, Brownies have all gone missing I feel that women are in danger when they are walking the streets at night and there is a lot of car theft going on After school clubs would be good for the kids

Conclusion • Generally encouraging signs for local churches • Positive signs for Barnet • Importance of provision for young people in Barnet • The Police are considered the most effective organisation in supporting groups and dealing with issues in Barnet • Working together locally to address the key issues
