  1. A Curriculum for Excellence • Building our Curriculum in Oldmachar Academy

  2. Context • We are delivering the new national programme for education for pupils in S1 • This context is changing rapidly, due to national advice and local authority decisions, as well as our own experience in delivering the new curriculum • As a result, our planning is evolving.

  3. Our curriculum is built on… • A wide range of experiences and outcomes • An approach to developing skills and knowledge • Aims to promote ambition and social justice

  4. S1 Films • Two groups made films about the S1 experience

  5. e-portfolios • Students are completing these on a weekly basis and we will be ready to give access to parents soon

  6. Structures for Universal Personal Support • 5 x 18 mins of support per day (Period 31) • Disestablishment of Personal and Social Education • e-portfolios and homework support • Building Relationships

  7. We developed e-portfolios for learners • To capture feedback on learning • To build a new type of system for communicating with parents • To manage a pupil entitlement to support • To support the ethos of achievement

  8. Homework Support • S6 Learning Buddies have been trained to support pupils in Tutor Time • They help them reflect on their learning, and plan homework effectively

  9. Values Education Assemblies • Global Issues • The future as a theme • Developing citizenship • Empowering teachers to explore new areas of work

  10. We redesigned our delivery of Health and Wellbeing • We disestablished Personal & Social Education • And now deliver Health & Wellbeing messages in Tutor Time • And back them up with two collapsed curriculum days for each year group to support HWB delivery

  11. Building Relationships • We are evolving an approach to ensuring that people are comfortable in the role of the key adult • And are working out which functions of this role sit with tutors and which with Guidance colleagues • Once a week the class tutor has a specific lesson designed to build relationships • A range of suggested starter tasks provide them with ideas – these are developed by the PT Learning and Development

  12. Interdisciplinary Learning • Masterclass Model • Double period per week for S2 (Visual Communications) • Double period elective per week for S2 (2 electives for 11 weeks) • Integrating areas of knowledge • Focus on skills development • Teachers work across subject disciplines • Making connections in project based learning • Focus on the future

  13. Solutions Focused Approaches led us to develop some useful tools • Confidence Scaling • Builds a picture of learning • Builds an Agenda for Intervention • A different way to monitor and track??

  14. We are implementing Restorative Practice • To make our systems for Promoting Positive Relationships work better • And establish some cultural norms for behaviour • As part of our Respect Campaign

  15. Students’ perceptions have improved • Fairness • Engagement • Voice • Expectations • Health and Wellbeing • Achievement
