  1. Take Responsibility For Yourself Subtitled: Stop Playing the “Blame Game” Part Four

  2. Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

  3. Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Gen 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

  4. Gen 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. Gen 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

  5. Six Areas In Which We Play the Blame Game 1. The Tendency to Blame Other People 2. The Tendency to Blame God 3. The Tendency to blame the Devil

  6. 4. The Tendency to Blame Circumstances 5. The Tendency to blame our “sickness” or mental condition 6. The Tendency to blame our ethnicity or so called orientation

  7. The Tendency to Blame Other People

  8. 2. The Tendency to Blame God

  9. 3. The Tendency to blame the Devil

  10. 4. The Tendency to Blame Circumstances

  11. a) Menstrual cycle (period), old and cranky, tired, menopause, been through a lot lately, etc.

  12. Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  13. According to Webster's dictionary the word “tribulation” means “a trying experience.”

  14. b) I grew up in a bad neighborhood

  15. c) Due to this situation you have no choice but to (lie, cheat, etc.) or else you might lose your (job, spouse, home, etc.)

  16. d) I have no choice – it’s a part of my job.

  17. e) It’s okay to hang out here. You won’t get tempted. You’re strong.

  18. The Bible's advice concerning sin - FLEE! 1 Cor. 6:1 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 2 Tim. 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

  19. 5. The Tendency to blame our “sickness” or mental condition

  20. a) My psychologist says that I have a “sickness” and not a “sin problem.” With enough time, treatment and medication I can stop.

  21. In their book, Psychology Debunked, Lisa and Ryan Bazler write the following: “Satan has succeeded in weakening and polluting the church with psychological doctrines that deny the Word of God. Using scientific sounding terms, professional licenses and strategic positioning of psychology as a helping and caring profession, (Cont.)

  22. (cont) Satan seeks to undermine the Christian’s faith in the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word through well-meaning Christian therapists”

  23. 2 Cor 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God

  24. 1 Kings 8:56 Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

  25. b) I have a chemical balance. Therefore it is not sin, it is a medical issue.

  26. In his book, Blame It On The Brain?, Dr. Edward T. Welch writes, “there is no such thing as a consistent, verifiable chemical imbalance or neuroanatomical abnormality among the psychiatric diagnoses. Blood tests and brain scans are not even used in making a psychiatric diagnosis.”

  27. Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

  28. REPENT - to have a “change of mind” concerning our sin and to turn completely away from it. Changing the way one “thinks and acts.”

  29. c) I’m sick and I have suffered a lot so I have a right to act this way.

  30. Job also suffered a lot physically. The Bible’s testimony is, “In all this did not Job sin with his lips” (Job 2:10).

  31. 6. The Tendency to blame our ethnicity or so called orientation

  32. a) “It’s my Irish tempter,” “It’s because I’m Black,” etc.

  33. Quit playing false with one another, since you have shucked off the old man and his habits, and have put on the new one which is constantly being remade to the specifications of its Creator’s pattern. The pattern for the new man is the same for a Negro and a white man, a church member and non-church-member, foreigner, Mexican, employee, employer, but Christ is everything in everybody. (Col. 3:10, 11; The Cotton Patch Bible)

  34. b) This is a cultural thing. I act and/or believe this way because of the culture I am from.

  35. Gal. 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

  36. c) I was born this way.

  37. Three Important Truths 1. The Bible teaches that sin, including the sin of homosexuality is a choice (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26-28; 1 Cor. 6:9-12).

  38. Three Important Truths 2. In a sense, all of us were “born” in sin (Psalm 51:5; Rom. 5:12) and this is why we have a need to be “born again” (John 3:1-7).

  39. Three Important Truths 3. If we are born again then we are “new creations” and our past is wiped away (2 Cor. 5:17). A born again Christian should not justify any type of sin by claiming he or she was “born that way.” (1 John 2:29; 3:9).

  40. d) To call my lifestyle a sin is nothing more than “religious bigotry.”

  41. Such pejorative statements as “religious bigotry,” “homophobia,” and others are used to intimidate Bible-believing Christians to silence.

  42. Two Important Truths 1. The Christian who confronts a person involved in any sin must remember to confront with humility and love and not with anger.

  43. Gal. 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

  44. Two Important Truths 1. The Christian who struggles with sin should not buy into the Tempter’s lie that anyone who confronts their sin is a bigot. Those who claim to be Christians should allow God’s Word to take precedence over feelings and passions.
