Age Continuum Learning outcomes Demonstrate an understanding of the age continuum in relation to growth and development and acknowledge physiological, neurological or cognitive alterations and identify the impact these can have on the service user and their carers.   Discuss the legal, ethical and professional issues integral to working with people across the age continuum and how these can be incorporated into everyday practice.

  3. Explore how the contribution of the Mental Health nurse, in partnership with other professionals, contributes to the promotion of health and wellbeing of clients across the age continuum. Demonstrate group collaboration and negotiation in producing a professional presentation that clearly articulates and informs your audience about your chosen topic.

  4. Learning outcomes 1-4 will be assessed via a group presentation.

  5. How will the presentation be organised? In your learning group You will be presenting in small groups (approx 3 - 4 people). It would be beneficial if you were presenting with other students interested in similar areas. Your academic tutor and another staff member will be present. Your presentation will be 15-20 minutes plus time for questions.

  6. When will the presentation take place? Week commencing 12th December 2011

  7. How will the presentation be assessed? Academic Tutor = 50% mark Peers = 50% mark

  8. How do we do the peer assessment? Your presentation group will be asked to assess another presenting group You will use the assessment form provided on Blackboard. You need to come to a consensus decision about the mark. Hand one mark sheet with the final mark and comments to your academic tutor.

  9. This assessment must be treated in the same way as an exam. You must attend and take part or your result will be recorded as a fail.

  10. What if I can’t attend or take part in the presentation? Extensions cannot be given for the group presentation. If you believe you have extenuating circumstances you must apply for these in the usual way. A resubmission date will be set for your presentation by the module leader. You will be required to form another group with other students across the year group who were unable to complete the presentation.

  11. Written Assessment This is for the Advanced Diploma and BN programmes only. 1500 words to relate to learning outcome 5 only. 5.Analyse the effectiveness of current service provision and policy in providing opportunities to identify and respond to the health needs of individuals with mental health issues as they progress along the age continuum.
