This is an ideal way to utilise our specialist equipment, much of which is unavailable in normal community gyms. Talk to our front desk staff for further details. Group Sessions: We believe in keeping our group sessions small and safe, and in a quiet environment to provide an alternative to the classic gym scene that can be intimidating. Physio gym/pool Sessions: These sessions are supervised by a physiotherapist and are rebatable from private health funds. This focuses on rehabilitation with a variety of conditions including injury rehabilitation, osteoporosis, arthritis, Back and neck Pain, medical conditions and general poor fitness. Sessions are always tailored to individual needs, goals and medical history. After a check-up with the physiotherapist to best target your needs, you will join a small group of people at a time that is convenient for you. Your instructors will then go through your individual program with you and guide you through the program to better health and a more active lifestyle. This may include on-site pool work if required. All our gym/pool sessions are fun and enjoyable, but you do work hard. On your road to recovery from injury the physiotherapist uses specific exercise as an active step in your treatment plan. Your program can consist of any of the listed services or a mixture. The physiotherapist will monitor your progress and make alterations to your program as needed.

  4. Independent gym/pool usage: We open our gym and pool to independent sessions during the time these facilities are not utilised for group work. This is designed for clients who know their exercise program and need no supervision. We ensure all clients who will be training independently have a safe structured program designed for their needs. Further details: Fees vary for all our group and individual sessions. There are casual costs and discounts for 10 sessions paid up front. Contact our reception on 9535 7439 for further details on gym work. A disclaimer must be signed prior to entering our rehabilitation facilities. It is one of those areas of our body we use all the time and take for granted. And it can get injured, overused, and wear out with time, excess loading and poor posture. It can then cause pain, headaches, arm pain and a range of other symptoms such as vertigo and weakness. Physiotherapy is important for a full assessment of the problem, to see whether it’s coming from your neck or elsewhere and to ensure a treatment plan is in place. A home program is vital and may consist of stretch and strength work which will help control neck pain and allow maintenance of chronic pain to minimize flare-ups. Chronic neck pain following whiplash injuries is common. The neck muscles are used every day all day and it is very difficult to rest these injured structures. Apart from normal movements, they are vitally important in maintaining your posture. Whiplash can leave a weakness in the neck and sometimes degenerative changes. Whiplash is quite a complicated injury often causing headaches, face pain, neck pain, pins and needles, weakness, limitations of movements and often depression. Physiotherapy at a chronic stage should be twofold. First, the symptoms should settle down as quickly as is possible and then both the physiotherapist and the client must strive to ensure that the problem becomes manageable. It will probably not go away altogether, so strategies need to be devised in order to live and cope with the condition. This means regular exercise not only for the neck but also cardiovascular exercise, diet change, loss of weight if appropriate, posture adjustments and flare up strategies. The aim is to minimize flare-ups to prevent further damage. O i i ttl d d k h lth I t itt t

  9. Once pain is settled, ensure good neck health. Intermittent maintenance treatment by your local physiotherapist every 4-6 weeks should help to control symptoms and manage neck pain. #Physiotherapist #pelvic floor physiotherapy #best physiotherapist near me #Sports Physiotherapy #physiotherapy centre near me #physiotherapist in mandurah    Are you a tradie in pain? Back & Posture A tradies’ health is their most important tool, yet Australian tradies experience some of the highest rates of injury and time off work compared to other workers. In fact, 3 in 5 serious workplace injuries involve a tradie, despite tradies making up only 30 percent of the Australian workforce. The Australian Physiotherapy Association is encouraging all tradies, their employers and families to think about their health and take a few simple steps to prioritise their wellbeing at work. Lower Back pain can be both painful and frustrating. It is also very common. Research indicates persistent low back pain is due to a range of factors including poor disc hydration/health, stiff spinal segments, poor muscle control, degeneration of the spine, nerve compression and is influenced by psychosocial issues. This may lead to not enough or too much movement between the vertebrae segments thus causing pain. If this is the case then specific exercises aimed at improving normal spinal range and function will improve the back’s function and decrease pain. These exercises involve both back muscles and abdominal muscles but play an entirely different role to the abdominal muscles we use with exercises such as sit-ups. In fact, there is a theory that these type of exercises such as sit-ups can actually cause an increase in chronic pain because the wrong type of muscles are being used and they are unable to stabilise and give the support necessary.

  10. The muscles that stabilise the spine are the lower abdominal muscles, which include the transverse abdominous, and the internal oblique muscles. These muscles can be felt in the lower tummy area just below the front hipbones felt through the lower tummy. The simplest way to exercise them is to try to gently pull in these muscles without tightening the upper abdominal muscles. This type of exercise then becomes incorporated with activities of daily living so that it becomes an unconscious action involved in posture. Before you start on an exercise program ensure you get a full assessment of your problem, as instability or weak muscles may not necessarily be the cause of your problem. Your posture and spinal range need to be assessed. The lower abdominal muscles need to be tested in specific positions to see how strong they are. You will need an individually planned exercise program incorporating both strength exercises and stretches. On top of all that you need to stick with your exercise program as initially, progress can be slow. The longer the problem has been, the slower the rehabilitation can be. But persist. With a good physiotherapist, your pain can be managed

  11. ut pe s st in most cases without surgery or medications. t a good p ys ot e ap st, you pa ca be a aged At Mandurah Physiotherapy we specialise in low back pain and use a variety of techniques including Acupuncture, mobilisation, and exercise to regain range of movement in the spine and strengthen the core muscles which support the spine. Posture is the position in which you hold your body upright against gravity while standing, sitting or laying down. Good posture helps to minimise the amount of strain imposed on our muscles, joints and ligaments whilst performing our daily activities. Proper posture: 1. Minimises muscle strain by keeping bones and joints in optimal alignment. 2. Decreases the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces caused by overload and overstrain. 3. Minimises ligamentous strain on the joints of the spine and posture loaded joints. 4. Minimises fatigue due to more efficient use of muscles, allowing the body to use less energy. 5. Helps prevents backache and muscular pain. 6. Contributes to a more positive and assertive appearance. Proper posture requirements: Good muscle and joint flexibility Strong postural muscles

  12. Balanced muscle tone on both sides of the spine An understanding of what constitutes good posture which leads to conscious correction. With practice, the correct posture for standing, sitting, and lying down will gradually replace your old posture. What is the correct way to stand? Most people when asked to stand with good posture immediately stand tall, arching their spine and pulling their shoulders back. It looks uncomfortable and is a far cry from a healthy standing posture. Keep it simple – try using PUPPET POSTURE! Puppet posture is a term I have used to simplify the process of assuming the correct posture. It works especially well with children as they can identify easily. Imagine that you are a puppet (well try to at least!) with a string coming out of the top of your head. Gently lift the imaginary string upwards to straighten your spine. Your arms and shoulders will assume the best posture they can for your current spinal function. Watch yourself in the mirror to visualise what you are achieving. Practice regularly, it gets easier as your spine and muscles gain strength. Sleeping Posture It is preferable to sleep on your back or side only. Sleeping on your stomach may cause lower back and neck strain. Use a quality contoured pillow that provides adequate support to your head and

  13. contoured pillow that provides adequate support to your head and neck while sleeping. When arising from bed, move to the side of the bed and push yourself up sideways while swinging your legs off the side. When your back is painful you may place a pillow under your knees (when on your back) or between your knees (when on your side). #neck and head physiotherapy in mandurah #Neck and Head Physiotherapy in Perth #Physiotherapy for Tradies in Perth #Physiotherapist Armadale in Perth #Physiotherapist Armadale in Mandurah #Sports Physiotherapy Mandurah #Physiotherapist Armadale Mandurah #Physiotherapy for Knee Osteoarthritis in Mandurah #Physiotherapisy Mandurah #Knee Joint Pain Relief in Perth #Lower Back Pain in Mandurah #Massage Service in Mandurah #Physiotherapy for Back Pain Relief in Mandurah #Physiotherapy Treatment in Mandurah #Physiotherapy Treatment Mandura #Knee Pain Physiotherapy Mandurah #Physiotherapist in Perth #Physiotherapy Back Pain Treatment Mandurah #Neck and Head Physiotherapy #Mandurah Physio #Mandurah Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation #Physiotherapy for Tradies in Mandurah #Physiotherapist Armadale #Mandurah Physiotherapy #Physiotherapisy #deep tissue massage near me #knee joint pain relief #lower back pain    Try Shockwave therapy for chronic pain and a faster recovery We now have shockwave available for all those stubborn soft tissue problems such as tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and muscle soreness. No additional costings-it’s all included in a normal consultation-how great is that. Generally, results are seen within the first 3 sessions. Why not give it a go, and get pain-free for summer? Book in with one of our physiotherapists for a full assessment and suitability. Book online or ring 9535 7439 to discuss your issue. While it might sound intimidating, shockwave therapy is a non- invasive treatment used in a variety of health fields, such as physiotherapy, sports medicine, urology, and orthopaedics. Shockwave therapy is an ideal treatment for muscle injuries, relieving acute and chronic pain as well as assisting to speed up your recovery.

  14. Shockwave therapy was originally developed to treat kidney stones and gallstones, it’s also effective for plantar fasciitis, calcific tendonitis, knee pain, and a range of other treatments. What Issues Can Shockwave Therapy Help You With? Shockwave therapy can help with issues such as: Tennis elbow Achilles tendinopathy Golfers elbow Jumpers knee (patella tendinitis) Shoulder bursitis Plantar fasciitis (heel pain) Hip or trochanteric bursitis Hamstrings tendinitis Muscle knots What Can I Expect During A Shockwave Therapy Appointment? Before we begin any shockwave therapy treatment with you, our physiotherapists will undertake a thorough assessment of your areas of concern to diagnose your injury. If it is decided that shockwave treatment is suitable for you, we will prepare you for shockwave treatment. This will take approximately 5 minutes. The treatment itself is mildly uncomfortable, which resolves as soon as treatment is completed. We will also include in your treatment massage, joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, taping, and education as needed.

  15. How Many Treatments Do I Need? We recommend four to eight treatments of shockwave therapy at 5 to 7 days apart. Currently, shockwave therapy is included at no extra cost and can be administered by your physiotherapist. Sports & Exercise Suggestions For The Application Of Ice And Heat Physiotherapy treatment Ice is an effective and natural pain killer and anti-inflammatory. Ice should be applied over the inflamed area in the acute or early stages of your problem. Whenever you experience swelling, redness or sharp / stabbing pain it is generally considered best to apply ice. Repeat until symptoms ease – usually for 24 – 48 hours. Following this, you should alternate with ice and heat. If in doubt, contact your Physiotherapist. Heat may be more applicable for chronic conditions to alleviate pain and restriction. APPLICATION of heat and ice Place ice cubes in a plastic bag or use a professionally prepared ice pack. Place a damp face washer or tea towel over the problem area then place the ice pack on the material covering. The first application should be as follows:- 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on

Mandurah Physiotherapy has an on-site hydrotherapy SwimEx pool which is available to clients and operates at a comfortable 32-34 degrees. We limit pool usage to one person at a time for individual comfort. The laminar flow current provides resistance to your workout and enables exercise with different levels of fitness and strength. The buoyancy can assist movement while the resistance can make exercises harder than on land. Once you have been assessed on land, we will provide you with a specific exercise program designed around your individual needs. Qualified Physiotherapists are on hand to assist and guide through your exercises. We have specific equipment which we use in the pool to adjust each exercise for your needs. There are also showers available on site. You do not need to be able to swim to attend

  19. hydrotherapy, as most exercises are done with your head above water. Please let us know if you have any concerns regarding your pool sessions. You will need to bring with you: Towel swimming costume (or equivalent) sandals/thongs Reading glasses (if necessary) Change of clothes (if necessary) Water bottle You will often feel tired and drained after your first hydrotherapy session. So take it gently! You may also have increased pain due to your body not being used to the new exercises. Make sure you drink plenty of water and rest after your first session. This should improve after the first few sessions. Hydrotherapy can be done under supervision or independently, once confident and safe in the pool. Please ensure you dry yourself off once getting out of the pool, before heading to the showers or home. This avoids getting water on the floors. We thank you for your assistance. Physio Gym/Pool Group Sessions In order to save you money, Mandurah Physiotherapy’s rehabilitation gym and pool offer small group sessions where you can train with your individualised program but under guidance so that we can continually modify and fine tune your program to suit you. Training with others is fun and motivational and there is always lots of noise and laughter from the gym and pool. If you are looking for a fun and

  20. cost effective way to train, this is it. You will be supervised throughout the session and numbers are strictly controlled. Individual Pool Usage Once you are familiar with your program, you can book and attend the pool either casually or buy a voucher of 10 sessions. Bookings are essential and you need to ask for a timetable for usage. Sprained thumbs ( Physiotherapy in Grange) are fairly common with a range of specific sports such as skiing. The reason for this is because during a fall the ski pole is between thumb and fingers. Any sport where the hand is stretched out on a fall can create damage to most commonly, the inner ligament of the middle thumb joint. Like any soft tissue injury the RICE procedure should be followed immediately after injury and for 24 to 48 hours post injury. This consists of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Thumbs or injuries of the hand can be slow healing due to the complexity of the structures and because rest of this area can be difficult. These injuries may take up to 6 –12 months to heal properly. However thumbs and fingers respond well to strapping or bracing which can
