  5. Primary functions of the PRSB • Clinical assurance of record standards • Brokerage for development of specialty focussed record standards • The place to go to for health & social care electronic record professional standards matters

  6. ROLE • providing overall governance of care records content standards, including their maintenance • professional assurance of standards for implementation in care records & communications • prioritisation of standards including assessment of sustainability

  7. ROLE • advising statutory, voluntary and professional bodies on record structure and content • providing care professional guidance for those working on technical implementation of the standards • acting as a broker for record content standards development for statutory, voluntary and professional bodies

  8. ROLE • first port of call for all matters relating to the structure and content of care records used by providers and recipients of health & social care • liaising with system suppliers, educational bodies and research organisations

What are clinical record standards? • Person-centred standards for structure and content of clinical records • First development led by RCP HIU, in conjunction with patients, carers and clinicians, funded by CFH/DHID • Academy of Medical Royal Colleges approved • Cover main content of clinical records: referral, admission, handover, outpatient, discharge, and core. Also editorial principles.

The JWG recommended the establishment of a Professional Record Standards Development Body to lead the development and professional assurance of clinical record standards across all specialties and clinical disciplines. The standards will provide the foundation upon which to base the collection, storage, communication, aggregation and reuse of structured clinical information across organisational boundaries throughout health and social care.
