  2. Basic Details Francisco Pacheco was born in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, which is a city in southern Spain, on November 3, 1564. He was the son of Juan Pérez and Leonor del Río. He was Luis Fernandez’s student and he was educated mostly by copying his Italian masters’ works. After he studied the works of El Greco in 1611, he went back to Seville and began an art school. He passed away on November 27, 1644, but the location is unknown. By Diego Velazquez

After he taught Diego Velázquez for six years, Velázquez married Pacheco’s daughter, Juana in 1618. However, nobody has found any trace of influence of Pacheco in Velázquez’s work. Pacheco is not actually considered a great painter, but he is remembered for his famous theoretical work Arte de la pintura (The Art of Painting), which was published in 1649. This is a textbook on paintings that became an important source for the study of 17th-century practice in Spain.

He wrote a book called Arte de la pintura, which became very famous for knowing the studies of 17th century practice in Spain. It was surprising to find that he was famous for writing a certain book rather than being famous for his paintings even when he was a painter. Also, he was a teacher of a very famous painter.
