  2. baseball • Long known as the ‘favorite national pastime’ in US.

  3. Football • American football developed from the British game of rugby; it is played only in US and Canada. It has a reputation for being a brutal and dangerous game. Players wear their uniforms and helmets and hurl themselves at each other fiercely. Player try to carry the ball over the opponent’s line or kick it between the opponent's goal posts. The matches between schools and colleges attract thousands of fans. Pretty girls dressed in fancy costumes, called cheerleaders, will urge the fans to shout encouragement or applaud good play.

  4. basketball • The 2010 NBA All-Star Game in Dallas

  5. soccer • Soccer was brought to America by British immigrants in the middle of the 19th century, but it is only in the last 30 years that large numbers of young Americans became interested in soccer. Now it’s the fastest growing sport in the country.

  6. Jogging • Jogging is a constant favorite leisure activity for many Americans. The running revolution erupted in the 1970s. Till now a great number of Americans still lace up their Nikes to jog along streets and school tracks. Joggers tend to live in areas where they can run year-round, either outdoors in Sunbelt communities – like Houston or San Diego– or in big cities, where abundant health clubs offer indoor tracks. Joggers believe that they are running to maintain their equilibrium. And joggers are heavy consumers of Ben & Jerry’s and Haagen-Dazs. This reflects their ethic: work hard, run hard, eat guilty-free.
