Problem: The FAA has very specific regulations around providing wheelchair services for airline passengers regarding initial response time, passenger delivery time, etc. with hefty fines for those that do not comply. The airline was fined several hundred thousand dollars for not meeting these regulations. They needed a wireless dispatch system for compliance reasons to include real time passenger pick up and delivery tracking, ticket barcode scanning capability, and GPS. Cause: Wheelchair agents are responsible for picking passengers from check in and gate areas, negotiating security screening and passenger delivery to additional gates or baggage claim area. The goal was to provide improved customer service and meet government regulations. Solution: Intermec CS40, with it’s superior scanning capability, deployed on AT&T's 3G network replacing Motorola MC35’s. Custom dispatch and management application which automated their compliance tracking and in-field processes including routing and real time delivery tracking, billing and account information. Customer Benefit: Wheelchair bound Passenger anxiety met with immediate and personal resolution resulting in higher customer satisfaction. Boarding and de-boarding procedures improved allowing for more on time departures as frequent delays occurred due to lack of wheelchair assistance being available.
