Ink Aware Notebook software Transparency Layer • Parallel to placing a piece of transparency paper on top of the computer screen - only writing on top of screen and cannot move objects • Able to capture your notes and drawings into the notebook software. Either the entire screen or portions can be captured into the notebook software • Unless the screen is captured, all notes are lost • Best to use when viewing and interacting with web pages

  9. Hands-on Practice: Transparency Layer • Take 15 minutes and try the following: • Using the transparency layer on a web page, write a few notes • Capture your notes into the notebook software. Try capturing the entire screen and just a portion of the screen. • Go back to the web page and practice restoring your notes

  10. Notebook software Transparency Layer Ink Aware • Able to write and draw directly into an active file. Notes can be saved directly into the file without using the Notebook software. • Ink Aware programs that we use: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Microsoft Paint • Ink Aware programs recognize digital ink, both the Smart board and the tablet PCs use digital ink to draw and write on the screen. • Recognizes the area of the software that is the active work area and the area that is used for buttons and toolbars.

Using Ink Aware with Microsoft Word and Excel • Before moving to another page in Word, be sure to use the Aware toolbar to "insert your drawings or writing" or "convert your writing to text" otherwise everything that you have written on the Smart board will disappear. • Using the capture button on the Aware toolbar saves the entire visible screen (not necessarily an entire page within word) as an image in the notebook software. Images within notebook software cannot be altered. • If the Ink Aware toolbar is missing: go to -- View -- Toolbars -- Smart Aware Toolbar • Use the Save As option if you would like to ensure no changes are made to your original file, but would still like a copy of the file with the additional notes and drawings.

Using Ink Aware with PowerPoint • Powerpoint is only Ink Aware in the slide show view. • Within the normal view, the transparency layer and the Floating Tools toolbar appear when a pen is picked up from the Smart board. • While in presentation view, Ink Aware is activated and Slide Show toolbar appears. • Use the Slide Show Toolbar to move between slides. • Or advance to the next slide by pressing twice on the Smart board, making the second press to the right of the first. • To go to the previous slide, make the second press to the left of the first. • On the Slide Show Toolbar, open the Command Menu to Insert drawing as image, Capture to notebook, Add blank page, etc. Save vs. Save As

  14. Hands-On Practice: Ink Aware • Try one of the following: • Insert a note as text into a selected cell of an Excel spreadsheet • Create and save a note on a PowerPoint slide into Notebook software • Create and save a note/drawings on a PowerPoint slide and save into PowerPoint

A Powerpoint file can be imported into Notebook software • Handwriting recognition • Sharing gallery files
