Hands-on Practice: Transparency Layer

  • Take 15 minutes and try the following:

    • Using the transparency layer on a web page, write a few notes

    • Capture your notes into the notebook software. Try capturing the entire screen and just a portion of the screen.

    • Go back to the web page and practice restoring your notes

Using Ink Aware with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Before moving to another page in Word, be sure to use the Aware toolbar to "insert your drawings or writing" or "convert your writing to text" otherwise everything that you have written on the Smart board will disappear.

  • Using the capture button on the Aware toolbar saves the entire visible screen (not necessarily an entire page within word) as an image in the notebook software. Images within notebook software cannot be altered.

  • If the Ink Aware toolbar is missing: go to -- View -- Toolbars -- Smart Aware Toolbar

  • Use the Save As option if you would like to ensure no changes are made to your original file, but would still like a copy of the file with the additional notes and drawings.

Using Ink Aware with PowerPoint

  • Powerpoint is only Ink Aware in the slide show view.

    • Within the normal view, the transparency layer and the Floating Tools toolbar appear when a pen is picked up from the Smart board.

    • While in presentation view, Ink Aware is activated and Slide Show toolbar appears.

  • Use the Slide Show Toolbar to move between slides.

    • Or advance to the next slide by pressing twice on the Smart board, making the second press to the right of the first.

    • To go to the previous slide, make the second press to the left of the first.

    • On the Slide Show Toolbar, open the Command Menu to Insert drawing as image, Capture to notebook, Add blank page, etc.
