  2. Outline for Meeting • Welcome and Quick Summary • Introductions • Current Projects • Discussion

  3. Quick Summary • Summer 2004 programs were a success! • each team had 5 members • each team taught our Java curriculum and an Entrepreneurship seminar, including a business plan competition • each team also ran a self-learning initiative, where some of the best students learned independently (OCW model)

  4. Current Projects - I • “Bridging the Digital Divide One Summer at a Time: A Five-Year Reflection” • A chance for AITI to thanks its supporters and inform them about our work • An opportunity to introduce our program to new people who can help us on all fronts • For more information, contact Tammy Stern – tstern@mit.edu

  5. Current Projects - II • AITI Satellite Feasibility Study Project • An idea that came from a few AITI participants • Work with AITI graduates in Kenya, Ghana, and Ethiopia to set up satellite programs in other schools around their countries • MIT-AITI would help with consulting, fundraising, and logistics • For more information, contact Eric Mibuari – mibuari@mit.edu

  6. Current Projects - III • AITI Spring Semester 6-Unit Class • In an effort to better prepare the AITI 2005 participants for their trips over the summer • Class has been held in the past, but this is a completely new design • Class has three components: logistics, guest lecture, and service learning • For more information, contact Manish Gaudi – mgaudi@mit.edu

  7. Current Projects - IV • Fundraising • Something we do every Fall semester, but this year is a little different • Focusing on both this year’s program, and securing long-term funding through new sources • One of the central components of our programs, and definitely one of the most important! • For more information, contact Saria Hassan – saria_hassan@student.hms.harvard.edu

  8. Current Projects - V • AITI OCW/Self-Learning Initiative • Pilot programs were held last year in all three countries • The goal of this work is to set up a self-learning initiative whereby Africans students can learn independently and effective use OCW’s site • Many lessons from last year – we are re-designing a more effective model for 2005 • For more information, contact Qian Wang – qianwang@mit.edu

  9. Current Projects - VI • AITI Board • Creation of a board for AITI that can help with higher-level decisions and offer consultation and advice • Also, to keep people involved in AITI after leaving MIT • For more information, contact Yaron Binur – ybinur@mit.edu
