  3. Signal? On August 15, 1977 while working on a project for SETI in Delaware, Ohio, Dr. Jerry R. Ehman detected a strong narrowband radio signal The signal bore expected characteristic of non-terrestrial, non-Solar System origin It lasted for a 72 second duration, but has not been detected again Finding the location of the signal was difficult because telescope used two feeds to search for signals, each pointing to a slightly different direction in the sky following Earth's rotation They eventually traced the signal to the region of the sky that displays the Sagittarius constellation
