  2. We learned the short vowel sounds When a word has only 1 vowel and is closed in at the end by at least one consonant, it gives the vowel a short sound.

  3. Practice words: • mad • fed • lip • mop • tub

  4. We learned the digraph sounds These consonants ‘stick together’ to form one sound. They are tapped with one finger.

  5. Practice words: • path • such • quick • back • ship • when

  6. We learned the all weld • all changes the short a sound to /o/. • all is a welded sound. all is not one sound it is two /o/ and /l/ the second /l/ is silent. • all is tapped with two fingers together at the same time

  7. Practice words: • mall • fall • ball • call • quall (nonsense)

  8. We learned the bonus letters • ll • ff • ss • When l, s, or f follow a short vowel to end a word a bonus letter is added. Bonus letters are taped together with one finger. There are a few words that don’t get a bonus letter: yes, bus Some words ending in z also double: buzz, fuzz, jazz

  9. Practice words: • moss • dell • mill • huff • faff (nonsense)

  10. We learned the am and an welds /m/ and /n/ are nasal sounds and can not be made when our nose is blocked am and an are nasal sounds am and an have a short a, but it sounds distorted am and an are tapped with two fingers at the same time

We learned that s makes two sounds: /s/ snakes and /z/ bugs • shops • shop is the base word • s is the suffix that can be added • When reading this word, read the base word , then the whole word. Only the base word is tapped. • When spelling, the base word is spelled first, then the suffix s is added.
