The Amazon Initiative Consortium A collaborative research program formed by a group of National Research Centers in association with CGIAR centers, and aggregating Advanced Research Institutions and Non-Governamental Organizations, with the purpose of reducing the global and local environmental threats through the development of sustainable land use systems in the Amazon.

  8. The Overall Goal Reduce global and local environmental threats through the development of sustainable land use (LU) systems

Specific Goals • Intensify LU to minimize enrivonmental impacts and improve small holder income • Reduce negative effects of LU on human health • Conserve and use plant genetic resources • Rehabilitate degraded pastures • Reduce C emission and economic losses due to fire management • Minimize negative impacts of large-scale commercial agriculture • Increase national R&D institutional capacity
