Johnson, University of Oklahoma Norman Campus, DMR 0520550 Achievement: Middle student classes are invited each year to visit the University during which our graduate discuss their research, encouraging questions, with the goal to explain what a scientist or engineer does. Below, is materials science graduate student Rob Sleezer, who is explaining how a laser works, how he uses it in his research, and the impact its discovery has on everyday life. This provides an opportunity for our graduate students to develop communication skills while it ignites the curiosity of middle school students and stimulates their interest in a science career.
