  1. Final Comments

  2. The final exam • Monday, 11:30 until 2:00, in Mendel 101 and 102. • 6 problems, possibly with multiple parts • You will receive a formula sheet with your exam. It is the same one you had for exam 3.

  3. How to prepare • Practice. Pick random problems from this year’s exams, last year’s exams, the HW problems, and see how you do. • Don’t panic. • Get plenty of rest. Don’t stay up until 6 AM on Monday trying things. It won’t help.

  4. How can I help? • At this point, I really can’t. I have given all of the advice I have. If you have specific questions, I can, of course, answer them, but as to studying strategies . . . Sorry. • I will make myself reasonably available.

  5. What is “reasonably available”? • I will be around today during office hours. • I will be around tomorrow from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. I can also be available for an hour or so after 12:00 noon. Make an appointment. • I will be around on Friday from 10:00 AM until noon.

  6. Why so little JWA time? • At this point, I think it is, well, pointless, unless you have specific questions. • And I am available by email. The 48 hour rule is a “24 hour rule” for the final. • Quite frankly, at this point, I have done all I can. It is on you.

  7. Things not to ask • “Do I have a chance at a(n) [insert grade here]?” • “What do I need to get on the final in order to get a(n) [insert grade here]?” • “Can I do some extra credit?” (No, you can’t.)

  8. What about the final exam? • I am trying to test your physics knowledge, not your math skills. There will be no calculus. • Be specific! Don’t make me, or the other graders, guess your intentions or thought process. • Box your answers. • When I say “time’s up!”, time is UP!!

  9. When will I know how I did? • Probably not before Thursday. • I’ll let everyone know, and will make some time for people to look at (not take home) their final exams. • NO GRADES WILL BE GIVEN BY EMAIL!!!

  10. Last comments • Remember to try to relax, and don’t panic. • Look at the final exam not as something to be feared, but as an opportunity to show off! • Good luck! Make me proud!!  • It’s been fun!!
