Science Safety. The following safety rules apply to your science classroom and laboratory. Inappropriate behavior in the lab/classroom can be dangerous and will result in you being removed from the lab. Removal from lab will result in a “ZERO” on the assignment!!!

  1. Science Safety The following safety rules apply to your science classroom and laboratory.

  2. Inappropriate behavior in the lab/classroom can be dangerous and will result in you being removed from the lab. Removal from lab will result in a “ZERO” on the assignment!!! • Read all directions carefully before proceeding with an experiment or activity

  3. Know where the fire extinguisher, fire blanket, eye wash and shower are located and how to use them. • Broken glass must be swept by a broom and placed in the garbage….not picked up with your fingers. Follow instructions when using equipment and disposing of waste and broken glass. If unsure of correct procedures, ask the teacher.

  4. Properly Dispose of Broken Glass!

  5. Keep tabletops and sinks clean and immediately wipe up any spills. • Do not taste, smell or mix unknown substances unless told to do so.

  6. 8. Report any accident, no matter how minor, to the teacher immediately.

  7. Tie back long hair when working with an open flame or a microscope. • Wear shoes that completely enclose your feet whenever we use chemicals or glassware. This means no open-toed shoes or sandals.

  8. 11. Wear appropriate clothes for labs: no dangling objects such as ties, scarves, loose jewelry or flowing long sleeves.

  9. Respect all electrical outlets. Grasp the plug firmly when plugging or unplugging equipment. • Know the emergency procedures for fire and high wind. • Safety glasses or goggles must be worn if the activity could cause eye injury.

  10. No eating, drinking, putting on makeup, or chewing gum in the science lab. • Do not lean back on your chair. • Do not do anything that will put yourself or another member of your class in danger. Horseplay of any kind will not be tolerated.
