  1. A Step by Step Guide on... How to make a Flic-Flac

  2. 1. Line up the two halves of the card so that the holes are aligned as shown.

  3. 2. Place tape along the two halves, but leave a small gap so that the cards can still flex.

  4. 3. Fold the rubber band in half and thread an end through one of the holes in the card.

  5. 4. Thread a matchstick or paperclip through the loop created by the rubber band passing through the card.

  6. 5. Pull the rubber band so that there is sufficient tension to hold the matchstick.

  7. 6. Place tape over the matchstick or paperclip and the rubber band to hold them secure.

  8. 7. Thread the other end of the rubber band through the second hole.

  9. 8. Tie a knot in the rubber band on the outside of the card so that the cards automatically fold to make a “V” shape.

  10. 9. Thread the matchstick or paperclip through the loop on the outside of the card beneath the knot. Secure the matchstick or paperclip with tape.

  11. 10. Hold the flick flack down flat so that the matchsticks are on the top side and slide your fingers off the card, along the join, and watch the flick flack jump!

  12. Experiment with the length and the strength of the rubber band you use to see how they affect the height that the flick flack jumps. Which rubber band makes the Flic Flac jump the highest? Why?
