  2. In the beginning…. The Hip Hop Drop was launched in July 2005 by Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure, it soon became apparent that due to massive numbers that one class would become two, and due to the interest of the younger residents, two became three….

  3. Local Access Our community classes are run in popular central locations within Blyth for young people aged 6-16 *The Buffalo Centre* *New Delaval Welfare Centre* *The United Reformed Church*

  4. Quality & Quantity Due to the success of the classes, Blyth Valley arts and Leisure developed the post of ‘Community Dance Co-ordinator’. The classes see on average 100 young dancers every week!

  5. Performances In December 2005 it was decided that the wider community should witness the talent and enthusiasm of our young dancers. In December 2005 the Hip Hoppaz performed for the first time to an audience of over 300 people in a special Christmas show…

  7. In Demand! Since then the all three hip hop groups have been in popular demand, performing at numerous events across the North East….

  14. Development As well as performing regularly the hip hop groups are always offered development opportunities….

  15. Opportunities • Dance city taster has lead to 10 week break dance course been offered to girls and boys over a 10 week course. • Funding has been secured to take hip hop groups to west end production of Grease in October this year at the Theatre Royal. • 2007 will see the launch of ‘Level One Dance Leadership’ a Sports Leaders UK nationally recognised award.

The Future is Bright As the Hip hop groups continue to grow and develop Blyth Valley arts and Leisure strive to open more doors to these young people, we believe that the classes offer a physical outlet, social capital, education and cultural opportunities and give our communities something to be proud of!
