1. General Objective

To encourage industries to implement management systems in terms of safety and health at work under national and international standards, over the basis of the current regulations, to favor the operation of safe and hygienic working centers.

2. Program Policies

  • The Program on Self Management on Security and Health at the Workplace constitutes a promotional action of the Secretariat of Labor and Social Prevision in favor of the self management of companies on safety and health at work.

  • Companies join the Program on Self Management on Safety and Health at the Workplace voluntarily and receive the benefit of not getting periodical inspections on the subject.

  • The Program on Self Management is open to any work center, with priority on companies with economic activities of high risks, accidents or disasters.

  • The processes of evaluating and granting acknowledgements are transparent, by joining simultaneously personnel of the areas of safety and health at the workplace and federal work inspection, at regional as well as central level.

The Program’s operation scheme consists of five stages, which allow a systemized sequence of activities to impulse the program and achieve its consolidation at the work centers:

Work accidents for every 100 workers at acknowledged companies by the STPS, 2001 - 2006

Between 2001 and 2006 the accident of accidents at certified companies certified by the STPS lowered by 41.6%, which implied avoiding 4,555 working accidents.

This indicator stands below the national average of 2.2% reported for 2006 by the IMSS.

Workers without workplace accidents for every 100 employees at enterprises acknowledged by the STPS, 2001 - 2006

The actions taken by companies certified by the STPS, allowed for a greater number of workers not getting into accidents

Between the initial and current working accident rate there is a decrease of 79.38 percent, which represented the prevention of 41 working accidents, which favored a universe of 778 workers.

  • Developing criteria to evaluate the cost-benefit for starting the program’s operation.

  • Systematizing consulting, technical assistance and follow-up on the processes to widen the Program’s coverage.
