  2. 1. General Objective To encourage industries to implement management systems in terms of safety and health at work under national and international standards, over the basis of the current regulations, to favor the operation of safe and hygienic working centers.

  3. 2. Program Policies • The Program on Self Management on Security and Health at the Workplace constitutes a promotional action of the Secretariat of Labor and Social Prevision in favor of the self management of companies on safety and health at work.

  4. 2. Program Policies • Companies join the Program on Self Management on Safety and Health at the Workplace voluntarily and receive the benefit of not getting periodical inspections on the subject.

  5. 2. Program Policies • The Program on Self Management is open to any work center, with priority on companies with economic activities of high risks, accidents or disasters.

  6. 2. Program Policies • The processes of evaluating and granting acknowledgements are transparent, by joining simultaneously personnel of the areas of safety and health at the workplace and federal work inspection, at regional as well as central level.

Operation scheme The Program’s operation scheme consists of five stages, which allow a systemized sequence of activities to impulse the program and achieve its consolidation at the work centers: PLANNING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TRAINING DIPLOMAS SAFE ENTERPRISE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EVALUATION

  13. 5. Results Diplomas Granted as “Safe Enterprise”, 2001 - 2006 In this period 1,545 “Safe Enterprise” diplomas were granted. Designation of Diplomas 1. For management and complying with the standards on security and health at the workplace: 762 2. For continuous enhancement of security and health at the workplace: 369 3. For achievements on management of security and health at the workplace: 391 R3. For ratifying of the third-level diploma: 23

Results Work accidents for every 100 workers at acknowledged companies by the STPS, 2001 - 2006 Between 2001 and 2006 the accident of accidents at certified companies certified by the STPS lowered by 41.6%, which implied avoiding 4,555 working accidents. This indicator stands below the national average of 2.2% reported for 2006 by the IMSS.
