9. School Safety Safety starts in the parking lot. Doors locked to main hallways at 7:40. All parents should be clear of halls by 7:40. Complete background check each year to volunteer. Bring your ID to enter building and pick up children. We routinely practice a variety of drills.

Grading Policy Summative = 75% (Minimum 3 in a grading period) Formative = 23% (Minimum 2 per summative grade ) Spelling Tests Classroom Assignments Quizzes Check for Understanding Classroom Discussions Teacher Observations Homework = 2% • Compositions • Tests • Projects • Presentations • District Assessments • Performance Assessments • Portfolios

11. Elementary Reassessment Policy • Those who fail a summative assessment shall be reassessed. • A student who receives a 70-79 shall have the opportunity to be reassessed. • The student may raise their grade to an 80. The teacher will record the higher of the two grades.

12. Conditions for Reassessment • The student must complete ALL formative assignments related to the summative prior to the opportunity to reassess. • The student engages in additional learning opportunities/assignments. • The teacher selects the time for reassessment. • Time frame given to complete assignments and testing.

13. What if my child turns their work in late? • The work will receive a penalty of one letter grade (-10) when submitted. • If the work is not submitted in the window for reassessment, the grade will become a zero.

14. Academic Dishonesty • Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an exam. • Academic dishonesty will be based on the judgment of the classroom teacher/supervising personnel and the principal. • Students will receive a zero for cheating.

15. Effort Grades A quality work ethic is defined as: Timeliness: not tardy, turns in work on time Persistence: strives for personal best Focused Participation: remains on topic, stays committed Preparedness: having done prerequisite work, brings necessary materials

16. Effort Grades • A = Student exemplifies every aspect quality work. • B = Student consistently exhibits the aspects of quality work. • C = The student inconsistently meets most of the attributes of quality work. • F = The student rarely meets the majority of quality work ethic attributes.

17. Homework • The purpose of homework is to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. • It should be done independently by students. • Typical homework: • 20 minutes of reading • 15 to 45 minutes for other subjects • Check planners or homework folder for assignments

18. Art, Music, and PE Grading • A = Excellent, exceptional performance exceeding the standard • B = Successful performance of standard expectations • C = Inconsistent with progress towards standard expectations • D = Unsatisfactory performance with little progress towards standard expectations
