  6. Valuable Resources Guide • Is available online on the Guidance link of our school website • This guide provides valuable post-secondary and career planning contacts for all graduates and for all destinations. • This is a must-have!

  7. OSS Diploma Requirements • 30 credits -including all 18 compulsories/12 electives • Literacy Test or Literacy Course • 40 Community Involvement Hours • At the latest, by the April extract

Release of Information “There will be a one-time release of grades and other identifying information for all students in Grade 12 on October 11th to the Ontario College Application Service, and November 8thto the Ontario University Application Centre, using secure transmission technology. This will activate all of your future applications for this year. If you would like more information about this, please contact your assigned guidance counsellor.”

  10. Data Transmissions We will send your marks electronically to OCAS by the dates specified below: • October 11th (no midterm marks) • November 20th (with midterm marks) • February 11th (sem. 1 marks) • April 25th (sem. 2 midterms) • July 4th (sem. 2 finals) • August 22nd (summer finals)

  11. Data Transmissions We will send your marks electronically to OUAC by the dates specified below: • November 8th (no midterm marks) • February 13th (sem. 1 marks) • April 24th (sem. 2 midterms) • July 8th (sem. 2 finals) • August 29th (summer finals)

  12. Speaking of Marks... It is your responsibility as a student to research the minimum mark and prerequisite requirements for each program you apply for.

  13. Furthermore... It is your responsibility as a student to be in regular consultation with your teachers during formative assessments to find out what you have to do to attain the required averages on your summative assessments.

  14. Finally... • Be sure to review your marks on Exam Review Day at the end of each semester. • All report card marks are final. • If you are taking a Private School course outside of ECSS, you are responsible for ensuring that we have your official mark even if the Private School submits the mark on your behalf to the post secondary institution. ECSS needs to add this to Trillium so that it will show up on your final transcripts. • Please follow up with the Guidance Office.

  15. Scholarships, Awards, Bursaries • Scholarship news, contact links, and application deadlines will be posted on the Guidance linkof our ECSS website. • Some information will be posted on our Guidance Notes bulletin board next to the Student Council board in the Guidance hallway.

  16. ECSS Graduation Awards • Opportunity to nominate yourself or your peers • Teachers may also nominate students • Details of last year’s graduation awards are still on the ECSS Guidance link

Share your Strengths • We need strong academic senior students to volunteer as Peer Tutors. • We need senior students with strong learning skills to volunteer as Student Ambassadors. • Earn Community Involvement hours. • Pick up applications for both as you leave today or from the Guidance Office.

  19. Workplace Bound • Attend our ECSS Pathways to Opportunity event on Thursday, November 7th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. to meet representatives from a variety of institutions. • Explore the Valuable Resources Guide. • View the Guide for Students Pursuing Employment at the Guidance link.

Volunteer Opportunities • National and International Opportunities • YRDSB sponsored volunteering: - Opportunities to volunteer in more than 20 countries for 2 weeks or more • Consult the Valuable Resource Guide • Representatives will also be here on Thursday, November 7th for our Pathways to Opportunity event.

Apprenticeship Bound • Colleges offer Apprenticeship programs. • Explore programs run by Local Unions and Trade Specific Associations. • Cooperative Education is the best route to Apprenticeships via OYAP or use Job Connect after you graduate. • Excellent websites shared on the Valuable Resources Guide.

  22. Apprenticeship Bound – cont’d • Attend the College Fair on Monday, October 21st and Tuesday, October 22nd. • Meet several Apprenticeship and Trades representatives here on Thursday, November 7th • Pick up the Guide for Students Pursuing Apprenticeshipsas you leave.

Ontario Colleges To earn a diploma, certificate, or a degree: • View the Ontario College Information online at www.ontariocolleges.ca Pick up your own Ontario College Handbook as you leave. • Provides information on: • programs • admission requirements • campus visits • additional resources • Information about Private Career Colleges is available on the Valuable Resources guide. Also visit: www.ontario.ca/PCC

Ontario Colleges – cont’d • First, attend the 2013 Ontario College Information Fair- The Direct Energy Building/Exhibition Centre on Monday, October 21st & Tuesday, October 22nd . • Then, come to the ECSS Pathways to Opportunity event on Thursday, November 7th. • Almost all Ontario Colleges will have a representative here for you to consult.

  25. OCASOntario College Application Service • Fees: $95 ~ You may apply to up to 5 programs, with no more than 3 program choices at any one college. • Pay by credit card online, by mail, or call the Customer Contact Centre toll free number. • Go to www.ontariocolleges.ca • Create your own username and password.

OCASOntario College Application Service-cont’d • You may begin to fill out the application as soon as the site opens – usually mid October. • A “How-to” tutorial will be announced. • A step by step handout on “How to Apply” will be provided for you to pick up. • Watch for this information from Grad E-mail. • Let us know if you need help.

  27. Ontario Universities To earn a degree • View the einfo guide online at www.electronicinfo.ca Pick up an einfo guideline flyer as you leave • Provides information about: • programs • admission requirements • campus visits • additional resources

  28. OUACOntario University Application Centre • Online applications will require a PIN number. • Go to www.ouac.on.ca • We will provide your PIN numbers as soon as they arrive. Check for details on your Grad e-mail! -Usually by late November or early December • $130.00 for 3 choices, $44 for each additional choice • Pay online by credit card or send a cheque in the mail.

  29. OUAC Ontario University Application Centre • A “How to” tutorial will be announced. • A step by step handout on “How to Apply” will be provided for you to pick up in the Guidance Office. • Let us know if you need help. OUT OF PROVINCE APPLICATIONS • Outside Ontario/Canada • Obtain your own applications online and provide information yourself.
