SEO changes almost daily and information that is factual today may not be tomorrow………Bla, blabablablabla. Blab blablawblablablablablablaaablaablablaablaaablaaa blab blablybla. 8. SEO is NOT Voodoo! • Don’t let the So-Called SEO Wizards Fool you, SEO is not VooDoo! • SEO is Also Not a Science • Don’t Fall for the SPAM Offers and Get Banned

  9. It is ALL ABOUT the Keywords • Customer Says, “I want my site to place FIRST in Google” • What does that mean? • You are talking about those meta-tags right? …WRONG! • All SEO should start with the keywords people are most likely to use in their search when trying to find the content, products, or services you are trying to deliver • After selecting the right keywords, design your content • After designing your content, structure your pages, directories, and domain names • Mark up you content • Craft you URLs • Don’t try to cheat!

  10. Keywords? NOT!... It’s All About LINKS • Links are one of the most important factors in determining a site’s rank • If all content is equal, links will determine how one site ranks above another • Build a strong network of links pointing back to your site • Pay for them • Post in related forums • Write blogs on other sites with related content • Use Twitter and facebook to publish your links • All links are not created equal, so word them carefully • All links do not weigh the same • The number of links pointing at your site makes a difference, so have a long term strategy • Don’t sow your site to success in a link farm (Don’t try to cheat or Pay someone to Cheat for you)

  11. I Don’t LINK So… It’s All About Mechanics • Automation and the mechanics of your site play a role in your rank • Multiple domains/pages pointing to the same content hurts you. • Don’t do this (It looks like your cheating) • Use 301 Redirects to point multiple things at the same content (301 Redirect tells search engines the current page has permanently moved) • Don’t loose your ranking, use 301 Redirects when your pages really do move • You need a SiteMap.xml file (http://www.sitemap.org) • A sitemap is an XML file in your site that tells search engines what pages to index • A sitemap.xml file is an open format used by Google, Yahoo, and Bing • Do yourself a favor and make your sitemap.xml file dynamic • .NET Developers auto generate off web.sitemap (http://sitemaps.codeplex.com/) • You should have a Robots.txt file (http://www.robotstxt.org/) • Another file that let’s search engines know what you want them to index • Check your performance (Page Load Speed), Google just added that as a rank determiner

  12. Mechanics my .ASP, It’s All About Keeping it FRESH • It is TRUE, you need to measure, adjust, and add content regularly • Use Google’s Web Masters Tools (http://www.Google.com/webmasters/tools) • See how your keywords are working • Adjust your site’s page content and keywords based on reports • Check often and update your site accordingly • Use Google Analytics (http://www.Google.com/analytics) • Watch the Referrer Reports Search Engine section to see how people are getting to your site. • THE TRUTH • All of these things are important if you want to do well in search.
